PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Leo Bruce (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Gurel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bruce comes to the cage accompanied by Migos-Y.R.H. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Leo Bruce!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jake Gurel!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gurel tries for a takedown but Bruce sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Bruce walks into a left hand.
Bruce gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Gurel fails with a takedown attempt.
Bruce tries to counter with a takedown but Gurel is quick to defend against it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gurel shoots and misses

and Bruce counters with a shoot takedown. Gurel fights it but they end up in guard.
Leo Bruce has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jake Gurel.
Bruce stops Gurel from standing up.
Gurel avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Bruce landing with the ground and pound.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Bruce accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Gurel working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Bruce.
Gurel wants to stand up but Bruce is controlling him.
Gurel avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Bruce throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Gurel works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Bruce working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Bruce accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Bruce throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Gurel is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Bruce working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Gurel's head.
Gurel wants to get back to his feet but Bruce is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bruce with a nice head shot there.
Gurel is trying to keep Bruce in close.
Gurel is looking to stand up but Bruce isn't so interested in that idea.
Bruce really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Bruce throws a strike but Gurel rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Gurel with a flurry of punches that miss.
Bruce wants to stand and escape but Gurel is having none of it.
Gurel stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bruce swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Bruce is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Extreme MMA (7 Elites $250/week) that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.
Bruce wants to stand and escape but Gurel is having none of it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gurel working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Gurel trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Gurel fails with the takedown.
Gurel fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Bruce feinted with a counter takedown.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Gurel is defended easily by Bruce.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Gurel dives in for a single leg takedown but Bruce sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Gurel misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Gurel throws a head kick but Bruce moves out of range.
Bruce appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Gurel is trying hard to land a takedown here. Bruce sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Gurel darts in and clinches Bruce up against the cage.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Bruce is trying to break the clinch but Gurel has him pressed against the cage.

Bruce's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Gurel shoots in for a takedown but Bruce shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Bruce appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Leo Bruce dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Gurel fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Bruce leaves Gurel with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Bruce attempts a counter takedown but Gurel avoids it well and moves away.
Gurel shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Bruce sprawls well. Bruce wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Gurel gets slowly back to his feet.
Leo Bruce has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jake Gurel.

and Bruce counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Gurel!
The strikes coming from Bruce are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

Gurel is trying to buck Bruce off.

Bruce is working Gurel over with some ground and pound from side control.
Bruce scores with punches from side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gurel is rocked!
Bruce creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Gurel is still in real trouble! Can Bruce finish him?
Bruce works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Bruce scores with a big shot from side control... and another... and another! Oh Gurel is done here - save him referee! More strikes land and eventually the ref does step in and Bruce can finally stop beating on his defenseless opponent!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:49 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Leo Bruce!
Leo Bruce was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
In defeat, Jake Gurel stepped up to the mic, saying 'You win some, you lose some. Today I lost. Tomorrow I will win. Its that simple'.
