Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Charley Short (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Dawson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dan Dawson will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Charley Short!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dan Dawson!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Steve Erwin and Donatello Bradman.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Dawson pushes Short up against the cage in a clinch.
Short could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Short is trying to pull guard but Dawson turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Dawson breaks the clinch.
Dawson turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.

Short instigates a clinch.

Dawson manages to break the clinch.
Good shot there by Dawson.

Dawson moves into range and clinches up with Short.
Dawson connects with a knee to the head.

Dawson pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
A slow jab from Dawson misses its intended target.
Short half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Dawson pivots, looking for a leg kick but Short is out of range and Dawson settles back down.
Dawson throws a head kick but Short moves out of range.
Dawson misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Short thinks about countering with a body kick.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Short fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Short checks a low kick from Dawson.
Dawson looks to land a combination but Short avoids it well.
Short shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Charley Short. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Short has a takedown stuffed.
Dawson swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Short showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Dawson.
Short drops down looking for a counter takedown but Dawson sprawls and moves away.

Dan Dawson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Short clinches up with Dawson and pushes him back against the cage.

Dawson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Short wants to clinch up but Dawson keeps it at a distance.

Dawson connects with a nice looking jab.

Short drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Short drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Short jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Short trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Short trying to control the position from guard on top but Dawson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Short won't allow Dawson to get back to his feet.

Short is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Short throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Dawson works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Short drops back looking for a leg! Dawson is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Dawson manages to kick Short off! Short jumps back into Dawson's guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Short circles away from the clinch attempt.
Short tries to counter by clinching up but Dawson breaks away and moves out of range.
Short avoids the head kick by Dawson.
Dawson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Short is defended easily by Dawson.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Dawson lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Short is looking to clinch but Dawson is avoiding it.
Dawson comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Dawson throws a low kick but it's checked well by Short.
Short is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Dawson.
A telegraphed right hand from Dawson misses the target.
Dawson throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Short is looking to clinch.
Dawson throws a sloppy head kick and Short moves out of range easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dan Dawson dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Short dives in and scores a takedown into Dawson's guard.
Short controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Short drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Dawson manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Short has Dawson in his guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Short lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Short stops Dawson from standing up.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Short is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Dawson is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Dawson keeping moving, preventing Short from controlling successfully.
Short seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Dawson has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Short wants to control from the top but Dawson keeps moving.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Dawson changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Dawson works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

Short manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Dawson on his heels. He'll look to pass Dawson's guard now, I'm sure.

Short throws a big elbow that misses.
Short is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Charley Short dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Short has Dawson up against the cage in a clinch.
Short is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Short escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Short on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Short doesn't manage to clinch there - Dawson circles away.

Short clinches up against the cage.

Short ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Short no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Short will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Short is looking to sweep but instead, Dawson has passed into half guard.

Dawson tries to stand and escape but Short is controlling the position.

Short is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Dawson pulls his head out easily.
Short wants to control but Dawson is keeping busy.

Dawson postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Short to stand up.
Short steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Dawson. That one must have hurt.

and Short counters with a takedown into side control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Dawson is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Charley Short overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Short looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Dawson is pushing Short's head away, looking to escape. Short manages to hold on to the position though.
Short is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Dawson's shoulder. That is not cool.

Dawson is trying to buck Short off.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Short tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Short has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Nice shot lands for Dawson.
Dawson bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Short's head backwards.
Dan Dawson seems to be getting the better of the standup.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Dawson swats away the attempt to clinch by Short.
Dawson pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Short tries to clinch up.
Dan Dawson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Short moves in looking to clinch but Dawson pushes him off.

Short throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Dawson tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Short is in Dawson's guard.
Short is working Dawson over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Dawson wants to stand and escape but Short is having none of it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Short sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Charley Short showed his dominance in that final round.
