Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Simon Phoenix (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Maubee Away (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Phoenix comes to the cage accompanied by Phoenix. Away is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Rude Boy Dreams. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Simon Phoenix!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 12 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Maubee Away!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Daniel Bishop and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Phoenix slips a jab from Away.
Phoenix throws a solid leg kick but Away takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Phoenix.
Away appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.

Away changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Phoenix looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
You can see the frustration on Phoenix's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Away controlling the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Phoenix is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Away's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Phoenix has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Away can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Phoenix pulls Away in close to his closed guard and prevents Away from doing any damage or advancing position.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Away pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Phoenix is keeping the position for now.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Away slips a straight right by Phoenix.
Phoenix connects with an inside leg kick.
Away blocks a leg kick.

Away sizes up Phoenix with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Phoenix tries to land a front kick but Away steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Away misses with a straight right.
Phoenix attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Phoenix is looking to score with low kicks.
Phoenix lands a jab to Away's midsection.
Phoenix lets loose with a powerful body kick. Away will feel that in the morning.
Away lands a head shot.
Phoenix pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Away lands with a good body shot.
Phoenix fails in his attempt to clinch.
Phoenix lunges at Away with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Away's hand.
Phoenix tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Away was well out of range. Poor timing from Phoenix.

Away missing with a left hand there. Phoenix was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Phoenix fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Away uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Phoenix.
Away misses with an uppercut.
Simon Phoenix seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Away takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

That was a close round but I would say that Simon Phoenix will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Away connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Phoenix takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Phoenix takes Away's back. Could be looking for a rear naked choke here - either way, Away is in trouble.
You can see the frustration on Away's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Away keeps trying to improve his position.
Phoenix thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent.

Away just trying to survive but Phoenix is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.

Phoenix gets his hands free as Away looks to control.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Phoenix is working hard for the rear naked choke here.
Away is trying to break free.
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
Away really must keep his cool here. He's controlling one of Phoenix's hands and whilst he does that, he's got a chance of escaping the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Away moves out of range of the strikes.
Phoenix waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Away.
Phoenix scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
A head kick from Phoenix lands but Away takes it in his stride.
The fighters circling - Phoenix throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
And Away tries to counter it with a takedown but Phoenix pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Away tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Phoenix ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Away moves away.
Phoenix bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Phoenix, as that shot connected.
Phoenix takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Away is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Away working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Away moves nicely into side control.
Phoenix tries to improve position but can't.
Maubee Away has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Phoenix got a little sloppy there for a moment and Away has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Phoenix has managed to get both his arms back between Away's legs - danger averted.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Simon Phoenix.
Well Phoenix has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
