PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hans Maldonado (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Bosse (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Hans Maldonado!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Steve Bosse!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Yves DeLean and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bosse is looking to clinch but Maldonado is avoiding it.
Bosse fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Maldonado has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Bosse changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Maldonado looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Maldonado sneaks back into half guard.

Maldonado kicks Bosse off and gets back to his feet.

Maldonado closes the distance and pushes Bosse back into the cage.
Bosse has Maldonado pressed against the cage, preventing Maldonado from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Bosse is trying to stall.
Maldonado goes for a takedown attempt but Bosse pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Bosse bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Maldonado struggling a bit here.

Bosse tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Bosse has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Bosse trying to control the action but Maldonado is working from the bottom.

Maldonado throws Bosse to one side and escapes!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bosse moves in looking to clinch but Maldonado pushes him off.
Maldonado connects with a body shot.

Bosse closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Maldonado's guard.

Bosse is looking to advance position but Maldonado has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Bosse is trying to stand.

Maldonado controlling his opponent.
Maldonado's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Bosse sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bosse looks winded!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Maldonado decides to stand and escape the position.

Maldonado closes the distance and clinches.
Bosse wants to break the clinch but can't.

Bosse has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Maldonado uses from the top position.
Maldonado really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Maldonado decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Steve Bosse seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Maldonado scores with a head kick.
Bosse ducks under a wild hook from Maldonado.
Maldonado misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Hans Maldonado will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Maldonado will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Bosse throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Maldonado was covering up waiting for the punch and Bosse finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Bosse drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Maldonado avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Bosse drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Maldonado is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Bosse blocks an elbow strike from Maldonado.

Maldonado preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Maldonado pulls Bosse in to control the position.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Maldonado is on top in guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bosse looking to control but Maldonado passes into half guard.
Maldonado performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Maldonado will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Maldonado closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Maldonado is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Bosse can do to turn this around?

Maldonado lands a hook that snaps the head of Bosse backwards.

Bosse has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Maldonado is not content to let Bosse control the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Bosse falls off balance throwing a combination

and Maldonado counters with a takedown into side control.

Maldonado stands up and beckons Bosse to his feet.

Maldonado rushes Bosse and presses him up against the cage.

Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Maldonado.

Maldonado seems to have come into the fight with the intention of avoiding any damage in the clinch, rather than actually showing any aggression.

Bosse decides to pull guard.
Maldonado throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Bosse works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Maldonado is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Maldonado slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Bosse is working an open guard so Maldonado takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Maldonado throws a head kick but Bosse moves out of range.

Maldonado takes the fight into the clinch.
Maldonado is trying to push Bosse away but Bosse has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Bosse has picked Maldonado up - he's going for a ride! Bosse dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Maldonado manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Maldonado displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Bosse throws out the jab.

Steve Bosse has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Hans Maldonado is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Maldonado has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Bosse uses from the top position.

Well Maldonado has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
