Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alex Mercer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 18 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Zach Didion!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Saam Ante and Patrick Alders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Didion fails with the takedown.
No luck for Didion with that takedown attempt.
Mercer appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.
A chopping leg kick lands by Mercer.
Nice body kick from Didion.
Didion looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Mercer is fending him off so far but Didion persists. Nope, Mercer circles away and we're back to standing.
Alex Mercer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Zach Didion.

Didion throws a head kick that misses

and Mercer counters with a head kick that drops Didion to the mat! Didion scrambles across the canvas and gets back to his feet, still wobbly!

Mercer tries to keep at a distance but Didion has taken the fight into the clinch.

Mercer is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Didion wants to improve his position but instead Mercer has moved into half guard.

Mercer is looking to advance position but Didion won't allow it.
Didion is looking for a sweep. Mercer is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Didion connects with the punch.

Mercer gets tackled into the cage by Didion. Didion maintains the clinch.
Didion tries to circle away but Mercer has him pinned against the cage.
Mercer lands a left hand that snaps the head of Didion backwards.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Mercer creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
A nice right hand lands inside from Mercer.
Mercer is pressed up against the cage. Didion has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Mercer down to the mat. Mercer avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Didion looks to land a left hand but Mercer moved out of range nicely.
Mercer is looking for a counter combo.

Mercer throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Didion throws a right hand that misses
and Mercer counters with a nice uppercut.
Mercer dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Didion. That did some damage!
Didion has his takedown stuffed
and Mercer counters with an outside leg kick.
Mercer on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Didion. Didion obviously looking to wear him down.
Mercer misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Didion shoots in for a double leg but Mercer sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Didion throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Didion is really struggling to land any decent head shots against his taller opponent.

Mercer wants to clinch up but Didion keeps it at a distance.

A nice side step and Didion releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.

and Didion counters with a stiff right hand.
Mercer throws a sloppy head kick and Didion moves out of range easily.

Mercer avoids the body shot from Didion.
Didion changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mercer tries to avoid it but Didion manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mercer to the ground. Mercer escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Mercer is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.

Didion connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Mercer's hands.

It looks like Zach Didion has been cut.

Horrible takedown attempt by Didion or perhaps it was just good defense by Mercer, which made it look bad.
No joy there for Didion, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Didion closes the distance and clinches up with Mercer, looking for a takedown. Didion pushes Mercer against the cage but Mercer circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

That was a close second round but I would say that Alex Mercer will probably get the nod.

Didion throws a hook but Mercer avoids it easily.

Didion's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Mercer connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Didion scrambles back to his feet.

Mercer cracks Didion on the jaw with a powerful right hand and Didion falls backwards against the cage. Mercer follows up with more strikes that drop Didion to his knees. Mercer keeps the pressure on and the referee jumps in to save Didion! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:20 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Alex Mercer!
A very excited looking Alex Mercer made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
In defeat, Zach Didion stepped up to the mic, saying 'I am wondering who i get next?'.
