PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ahti Kaleva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tenko Shinata (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kaleva comes to the cage accompanied by Jääkärimarssi. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ahti Kaleva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tenko Shinata!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Shinata bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Shinata tries for a kimura but Kaleva is defending well.

Shinata is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Kaleva is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Kaleva manages to work his way to half guard, despite Shinata's best efforts.

Shinata is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kaleva definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Kaleva escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Shinata gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Shinata drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Kaleva manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Shinata has Kaleva in his guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Kaleva wants to pass the guard but Shinata is keeping the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kaleva accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Shinata is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Kaleva is looking to improve his position.

Shinata seems to be working for a kimura but Kaleva defends the submission attempt.
Shinata is thwarting Kaleva's attempts to control the position.

Shinata is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Kaleva defends it well.

Shinata shoots in and gets a takedown into Kaleva's guard.

Kaleva has his foot on Shinata's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Shinata works his way back into a safe position though.

Shinata is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Kaleva is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Kaleva has escaped and now he's on top!

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kaleva tries to buck Shinata off but Shinata is having none of it.

Shinata has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Shinata is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

That was a close second round but I would say that Ahti Kaleva will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

I would just about give that final round to Tenko Shinata.
Well Shinata has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
