PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Max Mega (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pithe Canthropus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mega comes into the arena with Black and Yellow blaring out of the sound system. Canthropus has chosen Pizzaman - Trippin' On Sunshine as his entrance music. Pithe Canthropus told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 25 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Max Mega!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 35 - 28 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Pithe Canthropus!
The judges for this bout are Ben Hemmingworth, Chris Dean and Francis DeMontford.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mega ducks under a wild hook from Canthropus.
Canthropus jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Canthropus throws a half hearted mid kick.
Mega appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Some wild striking there from Mega.
Canthropus fails with a takedown attempt.
Canthropus tries a low kick but Mega avoids it.
Canthropus wants to clinch.
As Canthropus looks to move away, Mega throws a big counter combo bu Canthropus just gets out of the way.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mega shoots in looking for a takedown but Canthropus manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Mega's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Canthropus throws a series of punches but Mega moves out of range.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Canthropus is on top in guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Canthropus stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Canthropus wants it to stay on the feet.

Mega postures up in Canthropus's guard and throws a big left but Canthropus blocks it.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Mega is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

That was a close round but I would say that Max Mega will probably get the nod.

Canthropus throws an overhand right that lands on Mega's shoulder, as Mega tries to avoid the shot.

Canthropus jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.

Mega throws a hook to the side of Canthropus's head but Canthropus sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Mega shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Pithe Canthropus seems to be getting the better of the standup.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Canthropus will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Mega up against the cage.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Canthropus can't find room to land a body shot as Mega controls the action.
Canthropus is pushing Mega up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Canthropus throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Mega tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Canthropus is in Mega's guard.

Pithe Canthropus showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Canthropus lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Mega circles away quickly and effectively.
Mega seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Canthropus is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Max Mega overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Max Mega.
I think Mega has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
