Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Marvin Zerkle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul George (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). George has chosen Popular-Nada Surf as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Marvin Zerkle!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Paul George!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Wesley Smith and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zerkle fails in his attempt to clinch.
Zerkle fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
George is looking to clinch.
Zerkle is looking to counter with a shot to the body.

Zerkle has closed the distance and engaged George in a clinch.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Zerkle.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Zerkle creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, George just misses with a elbow thrown towards Zerkle's brow.
Zerkle lands a good knee to the midsection. George won't want to take too many of those.

George tries to stall but Zerkle uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

George decides to pull guard.

George has his foot on Zerkle's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Zerkle works his way back into a safe position though.

Zerkle is looking to work some ground and pound but George has wrist control.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Zerkle is in close to George's body, working some short punches and elbows.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

George looking to hit a scissor sweep but Zerkle is one step ahead there.

George has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Zerkle can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

George is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Zerkle has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Zerkle wants to lay and pray for a moment but George keeps working.

Zerkle tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Zerkle has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
George is looking to reverse the position.

Zerkle connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused George some visible discomfort.
George gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Zerkle is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

George tries to get to full guard but Zerkle has control of the leg.
Zerkle passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for George!
George is trying desperately to improve position.

Zerkle is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, George has managed to escape the submission attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Zerkle moves into the clinch successfully.
George seems to have recovered his senses.
Zerkle lands a knee to the body.
George tries to throw a body punch but Zerkle avoids it by throwing George back against the cage.

George turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
George looks up at the clock and then as Zerkle takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, George smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Zerkle gets back to half guard.
Zerkle won't allow George to pass to mount.
Zerkle regains full guard. Nicely done.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Zerkle manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. George manages to get himself to full guard.

George is trying to keep Zerkle in close.

We've been informed that George has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

Zerkle lands a couple of decent looking shots.
George has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Zerkle has passed into side control.
George is trying to get back to half guard.
Zerkle lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear George down.
Zerkle has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Zerkle can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as George is looking to escape.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Zerkle gets in close and instigates a clinch.
George tries for a takedown but Zerkle manages to get underhooks.
Zerkle throws an elbow but it's blocked.

Zerkle manages to break the clinch.
Zerkle scores with a nice head shot.
George ducks right into an uppercut from Zerkle.
George takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Zerkle is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that George can do to turn this around?
Zerkle bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of George's head.
Zerkle jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.

and George counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
George won't allow Zerkle to sweep him here.

George looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Zerkle has picked George up and slammed him! George can't keep hold of the triangle and Zerkle manages to pass to side control!

Zerkle is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, George has escaped the position, nice work there.

Zerkle goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, George has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Zerkle but great work by George.
George scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Zerkle to see if he's OK.
Zerkle is pushing George's head away, looking to escape. George manages to hold on to the position though.

George thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Zerkle's head.
Zerkle is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Boston MMA, so we'll see if he gets out of it.

George is looking for a kimura but Zerkle is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for George to get the leverage.

Zerkle manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. George keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
Zerkle works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
George takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
George lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
George wants to stall.

Zerkle breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
George's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Zerkle connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! George scrambles back to his feet.

Zerkle throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. George was covering up waiting for the punch and Zerkle finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Zerkle stands up over George, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
George looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Zerkle puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Well Zerkle has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
