PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Name Less (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Damon Newton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Skip Squint and Ben Watson.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Less, right into the meat.
Newton stuffs the takedown attempt from Less. Less gets slowly back to his feet.
Less defending well as Newton loads up on a big left hand.
Less throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Newton.
Less fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Newton avoids it really well and circles away.
Less shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Newton sprawls well. Newton wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Less gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Name Less. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Less shoots in looking for a takedown. Newton tries to sprawl out of it but Less keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Newton manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Less trying to hold on to Newton's head to control him but Newton postures up.

Newton decides to stand up.
Newton wants to clinch up but Less keeps it at a distance.

Newton throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Less was covering up waiting for the punch and Newton finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Newton decides to return to a standing position.
Less is looking to clinch.
Less darts in looking for a takedown but Newton gets double underhooks and turns Less into the cage.
Less tries to close the distance and clinch up but Newton swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Newton keeps the fight on the outside.
Less throws a head kick that misses

and Newton counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Newton.
Less is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Newton gets underhooks to prevent Less's takedown attempt.

Newton successfully pulls guard.
Less has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Less wants to stand and escape but instead Newton has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Newton controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Newton stands and throws Less's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Newton remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Newton has an Americana. Less didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Newton is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Newton hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
