PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Sparky Anderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Maggot King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Anderson comes into the arena with Blue clear sky blaring out of the sound system. King has chosen IllEvilHater - Maniac Maggot as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 26 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Sparky Anderson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Maggot King!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Trevor Gratis and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
King scores with a head kick. Anderson tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.


It looks like Sparky Anderson has been cut.
King throws a big shot that misses.
King ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Anderson moves away.
King throws out a leg kick but Anderson moves out of range and King only half commits.
King goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
King connects with a body shot that sends Anderson's belly button to the back.

Anderson shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Anderson showed some decent athleticism there.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Anderson is looking for a kimura but King is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Anderson to get the leverage.

Anderson slows the pace down in half guard.
Anderson seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but King does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Anderson is just content to waste time from the top position. King takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Our spies down at at Martial Arts Dojo inform us that King has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?
Anderson slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Anderson shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. King is trying to defend but Anderson finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Anderson looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
King is refusing to be controlled, as Anderson sits in half guard.

Anderson stops King from getting back to his feet.
King trying to hold on to Anderson's head to control him but Anderson postures up.

Anderson is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. King doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Anderson.
King tries to roll over but Anderson keeps him under control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
King is refusing to be controlled, as Anderson sits in half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

King throws a body shot but no joy.
Anderson changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
King swings away with a body shot that misses
and Anderson counters with a straight right hand.
King scores with a hook to the body. Anderson takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Maggot King seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
King takes a swing at Anderson's ribcage but misses.
Anderson half committed to a counter leg kick.
Anderson is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
King throws a front kick aimed at Anderson's knee but Anderson avoids it well.
King is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Anderson rather than just go for the knockout.
King moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Anderson avoids the head kick by King.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Anderson fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Maggot King seems to be getting the better of the standup.
King pivots, looking for a leg kick but Anderson is out of range and King settles back down.
Sparky Anderson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Anderson dives in and grabs King's left leg, looking for a takedown. King pushes down on Anderson's head and hops out.
Anderson fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but King avoids it really well and circles away.

A big left from King misses.
King lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
The crowd cheers as King lands an impressive looking overhand right. Anderson doesn't seem phased though.
Anderson tries to score a power double leg takedown but King sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Anderson somewhat.
King lands a nice hook to Anderson's body. Anderson takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

King throws a nice looking combination but Anderson bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Anderson fires out a quick counter leg kick but King just manages to avoid it.
King ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Anderson moves away.
Anderson fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Anderson slips under a jab from King.
Anderson looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Some bone on bone action there as Anderson checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
King throws a low kick, looking for Anderson's leg but Anderson calmly moves out of range.
Anderson half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Anderson closes the distance and clinches up with King, looking for a takedown. Anderson pushes King against the cage but King circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
King tries to counter with a clinch but Anderson shakes him off and moves away.
King has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
King with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.

King throws a leg kick but Anderson sees it coming and checks it nicely.
King throws a body shot but no joy.
King throws a head kick but Anderson moves out of range.
King swings for the body but Anderson moves out of range.
King is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Anderson.
King misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Anderson tries to counter with a takedown but King is quick to defend against it.

and Anderson counters with a single leg into guard. King didn't expect that.
King keeping moving, preventing Anderson from controlling successfully.
King tries to land a sweep but no joy.
King controls Anderson momentarily but Anderson frees himself.
Anderson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Anderson thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Anderson wants to pass the guard but King is keeping the position.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Anderson takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.

Maggot King showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

King bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Anderson fails with a takedown attempt.
King fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Anderson manages to avoid it.
King throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Anderson sees it coming and avoids it easily.
King dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
King lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
King throws a big shot that misses.
Anderson half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Anderson closes this distance looking for a takedown but King circles away.
Anderson has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from King.

Anderson went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
King lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.

Anderson shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
King throws a combination that misses

and Anderson counters with a shoot takedown. King fights it but they end up in guard.

Anderson sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed King's guard.

Anderson seems to be working for a kimura but King defends the submission attempt.
King avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Anderson.

Anderson is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, King has managed to free his arm - good work.
Anderson missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Anderson trying to mount his opponent but King defends it.
King pushes Anderson off looking to stand but Anderson dives back in and keeps control.
King wants to control but Anderson is keeping busy and won't allow it.
King trying to get back to full guard but Anderson takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
Anderson postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. King looks a forlorn figure.

Anderson jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… King is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by King and Anderson has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Anderson tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Anderson has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
King is trying to improve his position.
Anderson lands an elbow.
King is looking for a sweep.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
King is not content to let Anderson control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Anderson postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
King gets back to half guard.
King tries to get to full guard but Anderson has control of the leg.

Anderson is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but King still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, King has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Anderson is not content to let King control the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Maggot King.
I think King has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
