PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kirill Petrov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Trang Troc (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Petrov's entrance music is Iron Man. A fine choice. Troc has chosen Dr. Octagon - Real Raw as his entrance music. Trang Troc told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 35 - 23 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Kirill Petrov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 30 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Trang Troc!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Troc throws a body shot but no joy.
Petrov throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Troc's waist but Troc gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Petrov off to one side.

Petrov seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Petrov drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Troc manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Petrov has Troc in his guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Petrov is looking for a triangle but Troc pushes his legs off easily.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Troc goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Petrov looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Troc lands a really nice looking cross but Petrov seems unphased.
Troc throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Petrov gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Troc counters with a left to the body.
Petrov looks to land a left hand but Troc moved out of range nicely.
Horrible takedown attempt by Petrov or perhaps it was just good defense by Troc, which made it look bad.

Petrov closes this distance looking for a takedown but Troc circles away.
Trang Troc seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Trang Troc seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Petrov misses with a takedown attempt - Troc sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
A little jabbing left from Troc on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

Petrov is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Troc to keep the fight standing.

Petrov tries to score a body lock takedown but Troc shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Petrov jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Troc walks away with a smile on his face. Petrov gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Troc is looking to clinch.
Petrov is trying hard to land a takedown here. Troc sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Troc connects with a leg kick. Petrov looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Troc dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Trang Troc showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Troc tries to close the distance and clinch up but Petrov swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Petrov shoots in looking for a takedown. Troc tries to sprawl out of it but Petrov keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Troc manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Troc lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Petrov is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Troc has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Petrov goes for an armbar but Troc turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Troc.
Troc must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Troc would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Kirill Petrov has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Petrov manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Troc manages to get himself to full guard.

Troc utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Petrov stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Troc swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Trang Troc is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Petrov throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Troc works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Troc.

And that's the end of the fight!
Kirill Petrov showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Troc has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
