PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Christopher Samba (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carlos Cutwood (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Samba comes to the cage accompanied by Bezerker by Love Among Freaks. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 34 - 13 - 3, fighting out of Hilo, Christopher Samba!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 26 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Carlos Cutwood!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Robert Douchet and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cutwood throws a looping overhand right but Samba ducks down to avoid it.
Samba takes one to the side of the head.
Cutwood moves in looking to clinch but Samba pushes him off.
Samba delivers a nice body kick.
Cutwood tries to clinch but Samba moves out of range.
Samba connects with a body shot that sends Cutwood's belly button to the back.
Cutwood on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Samba. Samba obviously looking to wear him down.
Samba clobbers Cutwood with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.


It looks like Carlos Cutwood has been cut.
Samba connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Cutwood tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Samba paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Samba fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Cutwood to the ground. Samba is now in Cutwood's guard.

I was talking to Samba's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Samba throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Cutwood tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Samba is in Cutwood's guard.

Cutwood takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Cutwood's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.

Cutwood's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Samba connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Cutwood scrambles back to his feet.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Samba.
Samba lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Samba throws a nice inside leg kick.
Samba lands a jab to Cutwood's midsection.
Samba cracks a nice hook into Cutwood's ribs.

That has opened up Carlos Cutwood's cut even more.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Samba.

Samba fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Cutwood.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Samba here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Cutwood lands a nice looking kick to the body. Samba takes a step back to recover.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Samba changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Cutwood tries to avoid it but Samba manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Cutwood to the ground. Cutwood escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Cutwood might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Cutwood drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Cutwood jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Christopher Samba.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Samba, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
