Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Patrick Bateman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kenichi Shirahama (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bateman comes to the cage accompanied by Huey Lewis and The News - Hip To Be Square. Shirahama has chosen Fade To Black as his entrance music. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Kenichi Shirahama was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 26 - 11 - 0, fighting out of London, Patrick Bateman!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 35 - 17 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kenichi Shirahama!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Steven Brown and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bateman lands a nice shot to the body.
Bateman thuds his right hand into Shirahama's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Bateman throws an overhand right that lands on Shirahama's shoulder, as Shirahama tries to avoid the shot.
Shirahama drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Bateman defends it well.
Shirahama blocks a jab.
A head kick misses from Bateman.
Bateman throws a shot from downtown. Shirahama moves away and avoids it.
Shirahama with the counter takedown but Bateman avoids it easily.
Bateman lands a slapping body shot.
Bateman throws a body shot but no joy.
Shirahama changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Patrick Bateman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Shirahama blocks a jab.
Bateman scores with a nice right hand.
Shirahama shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Bateman as he jumps to the side.
Bateman throws a quick counter head kick but Shirahama was just out of range.
Bateman misses with a hook.
Bateman misses with a looping left.
Bateman bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Shirahama looks winded!

Shirahama checks a leg kick nicely.
Bateman feints and then cracks Shirahama's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Shirahama down.
Bateman misses with a low kick.
Shirahama moves away from the strike by Bateman.
Shirahama is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

Shirahama changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Bateman lands a head shot.
Shirahama will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Shirahama moves out of range as Bateman throws a body kick.
Bateman loads up on a big right hand but Shirahama slips the punch.

Shirahama closes the distance and clinches up with Bateman, looking for a takedown. Shirahama pushes Bateman against the cage but Bateman circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Patrick Bateman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kenichi Shirahama.
Bateman misses with a straight left.
Shirahama feints the counter takedown.
Shirahama swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bateman misses with a body shot.
Shirahama with the counter takedown but Bateman avoids it easily.
Bateman misses with an uppercut
and Shirahama counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Bateman throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Bateman stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Bateman wants it to stay on the feet.
Bateman connects with a body shot that sends Shirahama's belly button to the back.
Bateman's corner calls for a 1-2. Bateman obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Bateman lands a body shot.
Shirahama doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Bateman works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Bateman tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Bateman lands a big uppercut and Shirahama crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Shirahama looks OK. Bateman waves Shirahama back to his feet!
Shirahama is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Bateman.
Bateman staying out of range there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Bateman drops Shirahama with a beautiful combination! Shirahama stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Bateman is looking for the KO!


Shirahama is rocked!
Bateman fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Bateman throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Shirahama throws a shot from downtown. Bateman moves away and avoids it.
Bateman connects with a single shot there.

Bateman cracks Shirahama with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Bateman has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Shirahama to stand back up!
Shirahama is still on wobbly legs! Can Bateman finish him?
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Bateman throws a series of punches but Shirahama moves out of range.
Shirahama seems to have recovered his senses.
Shirahama goes for a double leg but Bateman avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Bateman continues to drive forward.
Bateman swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Bateman connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Shirahama fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Bateman avoids it really well and circles away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Bateman drops Shirahama with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Shirahama looks back up at him and smiles so Bateman waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.
Bateman drops Shirahama with a huge uppercut! Shirahama drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes. Bateman is raining down punches and the ref stops the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:21 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Patrick Bateman!
Patrick Bateman retains his heavyweight title!
An out of breath Patrick Bateman thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
