PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Randall Flagg (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Raimundo Sobral (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Raimundo Sobral told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Randall Flagg!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Raimundo Sobral!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Don Winkell and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sobral throws a leg kick
letting Flagg counter with a right hand.
Flagg looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Sobral tries a low kick but Flagg avoids it.
Sobral wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Flagg misses with an uppercut.
Sobral comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Raimundo Sobral seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Sobral shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Sobral is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Sobral is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Flagg doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Sobral.

Sobral wants to pass the guard but Flagg is defending well.
Sobral wants to control but Flagg is keeping him busy.
Flagg keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Sobral is looking for a kimura here.

Sobral is working for a kimura but Flagg is defending it quite comfortably.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Sobral seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Flagg tries to get to full guard but Sobral has control of the leg.

Sobral is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Sobral has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Rape Academy. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
Flagg is not content to let Sobral control the position.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Sobral is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Sobral is looking to take a break and control but Flagg is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Sobral looking to land some kicks to the body here.

Flagg moves into the clinch.
Flagg working aggressively here.
Still in the clinch, Flagg scores with a nice short uppercut.
Flagg lands a body shot.
Flagg throws a punch but it's blocked by Sobral.

Flagg breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Sobral misses with a takedown
and Flagg makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sobral shoots in for a takedown but Flagg shows good takedown defense.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Raimundo Sobral will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Sobral showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Flagg.
Flagg lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Flagg connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Sobral takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Sobral swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Flagg.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sobral throws a leg kick which misses Flagg's front leg but catches the back leg as Flagg tries to avoid it.

Sobral shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Sobral was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Sobral wants to lay and pray for a moment but Flagg keeps working.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sobral takes a little break here. Flagg wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Sobral is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Flagg has escaped the position, nice work there.
Sobral trying to control the position but Flagg is working away.
Sobral tries to move to full mount but Flagg actually manages to regain half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Sobral in particular looking to stall.
Sobral passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Flagg!
Sobral wants to take his opponent's back but he's not managed it.
Sobral can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Flagg is looking to escape.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sobral goes for an armbar but Flagg turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Flagg.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Sobral is looking for a triangle here but Flagg uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Sobral is looking to reverse the position.
Sobral struggling a bit here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Sobral prevents Flagg from improving position.
Flagg wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sobral keeps working.
Sobral struggling a bit here.
Sobral gets back to half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Flagg is thwarting Sobral's attempts to control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Raimundo Sobral will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Sobral misses with a takedown
and Flagg counters with a straight right hand.
Flagg uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Sobral has time to react.
Good leg kick by Sobral there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Sobral thows a leg kick but Flagg checks it
and Flagg counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Sobral misses with a combination
and Flagg connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A looping hook to the body misses from Sobral. Flagg does a little dance to reset his feet.
Flagg throws a right and a left that Sobral avoids nicely.
Sobral misses with a body punch
and Flagg counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Sobral thinking.

Flagg closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Flagg pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Flagg stuffs the takedown.
Flagg seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Sobral doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Flagg counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Randall Flagg has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Raimundo Sobral.
Sobral takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.


Sobral is rocked!
Flagg cracks Sobral with a left hook right on the temple and Sobral goes down! He's out! Referee! Stop the fight! Flagg lands a few more punches before the dopey ref steps in - hopefully Sobral is OK!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:40 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Randall Flagg!
