PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jo Hagar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pascual Perez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pascual Perez struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 172.3lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jo Hagar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 1, fighting out of New York, Pascual Perez!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Wesley Smith and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hagar throws a wild body kick that Perez sees coming a mile off.
Perez throws a counter combo.
Perez displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Hagar.
Hagar slaps away a takedown attempt from Perez, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Hagar shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Perez but Perez pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Perez shoots for a takedown but Hagar saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Perez swats away the attempt to clinch by Hagar.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hagar misses with a takedown attempt - Perez sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jo Hagar. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The fight stays on the outside here - Hagar looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Hagar feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Perez can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Hagar controls the pace.

Perez is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Hagar defends well.

Perez has his foot on Hagar's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hagar works his way back into a safe position though.

Hagar tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Perez swivels and escapes.

Perez looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Hagar darts in looking for a takedown but Perez gets double underhooks and turns Hagar into the cage.

Hagar is trying hard to land a takedown here. Perez sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

We've been informed that Perez has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

Hagar gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Hagar has Perez pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Perez manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Hagar drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Perez gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Hagar is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Perez jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Hagar walks away with a smile on his face. Perez gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Hagar tries to clinch but Perez is having none of it.
Perez throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hagar's waist but Hagar gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Perez off to one side.
Hagar throws a low kick but Perez moves out of range easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jo Hagar dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Perez slaps away a takedown attempt from Hagar, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Hagar will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Perez is looking for the big counter here.
Hagar misses with a two punch combination.
Perez doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
Perez has his takedown stuffed

and Hagar counters by clinching up.
Perez tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Hagar avoids it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hagar has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Perez uses from the top position.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Perez got a little sloppy there for a moment and Hagar has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Perez has managed to get both his arms back between Hagar's legs - danger averted.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Hagar shoots in for a double leg but Perez sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Perez has closed the distance and engaged Hagar in a clinch.
Perez jumps guard but Hagar stands there with Perez around his waist. Perez gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Hagar is looking for a takedown.
Hagar looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Perez gets tackled into the cage by Hagar. Hagar maintains the clinch.

Hagar has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Perez avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Perez wants to pass the guard but Hagar is keeping the position.

Perez is trying to get an arm triangle but Hagar is defending well.
Pascual Perez has got the better of the ground game so far.

Perez is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Hagar has escaped the position, nice work there.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Perez leaves Hagar with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Hagar misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Perez unleashes a big counter combination but Hagar bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.

Hagar tries to close the distance and clinch but Perez swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

I would just about give that final round to Pascual Perez.
I think Perez has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
