PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hans Dietrich (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Quintus Daedalus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dietrich comes to the cage accompanied by Mother- Danzig. Daedalus has chosen Spartacus Soundtrack as his entrance music. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Hans Dietrich!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 30 - 15 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Quintus Daedalus!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Alec Ball and William Peck.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Dietrich tries to sprawl but Daedalus drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Daedalus prevents Dietrich from standing back up.
Daedalus content to control rather than advance.
My spies in M Jay's Training Center inform me that Daedalus has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
Daedalus tries to pass to full mount but Dietrich defends it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Daedalus is taking a breather. Dietrich says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Daedalus thows a huge punch but Dietrich dodges it nicely.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Daedalus looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Daedalus moves out of range of the strikes.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Daedalus, right into the meat.

It looks like Quintus Daedalus has been cut.

Daedalus throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.

Daedalus is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Dietrich will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Daedalus wants to lay and pray for a moment but Dietrich keeps working.

Daedalus is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Dietrich knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
The referee asks Daedalus politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Daedalus prefers to stall for the moment though.

Dietrich throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Daedalus.
Dietrich rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Daedalus moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Daedalus drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Dietrich defends it well.

Dietrich jabs Daedalus to the body, keeping him at a distance.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Daedalus closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Dietrich to the mat! Dietrich manages to get full guard.
Daedalus is pushing down on Dietrich's leg trying to pass to half guard. Dietrich is fighting to maintain full guard but Daedalus has managed to sneak the leg through.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Daedalus. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Dietrich pushes Daedalus off and scrambles back to his feet.

Daedalus wants to clinch up but Dietrich keeps it at a distance.
It looked like Dietrich was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

The crowd cheers as Dietrich lands an impressive looking overhand right. Daedalus doesn't seem phased though.

Daedalus shoots in for a double leg but Dietrich sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Daedalus swings for the body but Dietrich moves out of range.
Daedalus uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Dietrich.
Daedalus feints a counter leg kick.
Dietrich paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

That has opened up Quintus Daedalus's cut even more.
Daedalus works Dietrich's body with a nice hook.
Daedalus scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Dietrich blocks a low kick nicely.
Dietrich misses the jab.
Dietrich throws a low kick but Daedalus moves out of range easily.
Daedalus changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Daedalus connects with a jab.
Daedalus goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Dietrich's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Dietrich duly obliges.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Dietrich throws a right and a left that Daedalus avoids nicely.
Daedalus dives in and grabs Dietrich's left leg, looking for a takedown. Dietrich pushes down on Daedalus's head and hops out.

Dietrich lands a big head kick that sends Daedalus tumbling to the mat! Dietrich takes a step backwards and waves Daedalus back to his feet - he wants the finish!
