PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Georgio Socrates (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tom Stroud (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Socrates comes to the cage accompanied by Tool - Schism. Stroud has chosen Vallenfyre - Iconoclast as his entrance music. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Tom Stroud enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Georgio Socrates!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 22 - 0, fighting out of London, Tom Stroud!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, James Atkins and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Socrates doesn't manage to clinch there - Stroud circles away.

Socrates throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Stroud tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Socrates is in Stroud's guard.
Socrates advances position into side control!

Stroud manages to work his way to half guard, despite Socrates's best efforts.
Socrates seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Stroud seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Socrates does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Stroud has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Socrates drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Stroud dives on top into guard.

Socrates takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Tom Stroud showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Socrates holds on and takes a little breather.

Socrates manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Stroud manages to get himself to full guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Stroud is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Socrates sees it coming and defends easily.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Stroud working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Socrates slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Stroud wants to pass the guard but Socrates is keeping the position.

Socrates has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Stroud can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Socrates is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
