Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kyell Gold (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ricky Steamboat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ricky Steamboat!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Shigeki Fujiwara and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gold lands the left hand.
Gold misses with a straight right.
Steamboat bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Gold will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Steamboat is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Gold with a body shot.
Gold lands a jab.
Gold fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Gold is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Steamboat's half guard.
Steamboat controlling the position for now.
Steamboat trying to control from the bottom.
Gold throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Gold thows a huge punch but Steamboat dodges it nicely.
Gold has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Gold jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Steamboat manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Steamboat wants to control but Gold postures up.
Steamboat on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
An elbow from Gold crashes against the mat.
Steamboat is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Gold is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Gold thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Gold seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Steamboat does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Gold tries to pass the half guard into mount. Steamboat knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Gold is keen to just control but Steamboat is a slippery customer.
Steamboat has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Gold is working away from the top position though.
Gold working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Gold is looking to advance position but Steamboat won't allow it.

Gold wants to lay and pray for a moment but Steamboat keeps working.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

That's time! Gold's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Gold throws the left hand but Steamboat avoids the punch easily.
Gold tests Steamboat's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Gold fails with a takedown attempt.
Steamboat lands with a kick to the ribs.
Steamboat with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Gold to score with a decent uppercut.
Gold feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Steamboats jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Steamboat uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Gold avoids the head kick by Steamboat.

Steamboat scores with a hook to the body. Gold takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

Steamboat stops a takedown attempt from Gold.
Gold is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Steamboat pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Steamboat is looking to control Gold's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Steamboat avoid being mounted?
Steamboat has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.

Gold not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Steamboat makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Steamboat.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Gold tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Steamboat defends well and Gold ends up having to push Steamboat into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Gold throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Steamboat sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Steamboat throws a counter combo.
Gold shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Steamboat but Steamboat pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Gold sets himself, and Steamboat steps forward looking for the clinch! Gold avoids it this time.
Gold shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Steamboat as he jumps to the side.
Gold takes a body punch but keeps moving.

Steamboat throws a fast counter high kick but Gold manages to duck under it in time.
Kyell Gold is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
The fighters circle momentarily. Gold darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Nice uppercut lands for Gold. That snapped Steamboat's head back.
Gold moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Horrible takedown attempt by Gold or perhaps it was just good defense by Steamboat, which made it look bad.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Steamboat misses with a body punch.
Gold goes for a takedown attempt but Steamboat pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Steamboat fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Gold.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Gold swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Gold is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Steamboat can do to turn this around?

Gold throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Steamboat.

Kyell Gold seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gold looks to land a combination but Steamboat avoids it well.
Gold changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Steamboat tries to avoid it but Gold manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Steamboat to the ground. Steamboat escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Gold looks to score with a jab to the body but Steamboat is just out of range.
Steamboat connects with a solid leg kick.
Gold has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Gold there as he acknowledges the shot.


Gold is rocked!
Ricky Steamboat seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Steamboat drops Gold with a naaaaasty hook - Gold is in real trouble here! Steamboat dives in to side control and pounds out his opponent for a TKO victory! The crowd goes nuts!
