PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Roger Cantor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nate McCann (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Roger Cantor had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 156.1lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, Roger Cantor!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Nate McCann!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cantor lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
McCann shoots in looking for a takedown but Cantor manages to keep the fight standing, pushing McCann's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Nate McCann seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
McCann fails in his attempt to clinch.
McCann blocks a head kick by Cantor.
McCann throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Cantor's waist but Cantor gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing McCann off to one side.
McCann misses with a jab, cross combination.
McCann shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Cantor sprawls well. Cantor wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. McCann gets slowly back to his feet.
Roger Cantor has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nate McCann.
McCann displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Cantor throws out the jab.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

A little feinted left hand from Cantor on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from McCann.

and Cantor counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
McCann tries for a takedown but Cantor sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
McCann wants to clinch up but Cantor keeps it at a distance.

Cantor takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
McCann fails to land the takedown.
It looked like Cantor was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

McCann closes the distance and clinches up with Cantor, looking for a takedown. McCann pushes Cantor against the cage but Cantor circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
McCann moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.

McCann fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Cantor shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts McCann as he jumps to the side.
McCann takes a jab right on the kisser.
McCann throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
McCann has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
McCann scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.

McCann moves into the clinch.
Cantor working hard to break the clinch.

McCann lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
McCann is leaning against Cantor and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.

McCann escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
McCann pivots, looking for a leg kick but Cantor is out of range and McCann settles back down.
Cantor throws a big counter combination but McCann scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
McCann doesn't manage to clinch there - Cantor circles away.
Cantor feinted with a counter takedown.
McCann misses with a two punch combination.
McCann has a takedown stuffed.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Nate McCann will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Cantor is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Cantor moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
McCann lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Cantor rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but McCann moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
McCann swings for the body but Cantor moves out of range.
Cantor swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.

Cantor fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
McCann shoots for a double leg takedown but Cantor sprawls well. He's pushed McCann's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Cantor will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

McCann changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Cantor tries to avoid it but McCann manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Cantor to the ground. Cantor escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

McCann misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

That was a close second round but I would say that Roger Cantor will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

McCann is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Cantor is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Cantor has escaped and now he's on top!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Cantor is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Cantor wants to control from the top but McCann keeps moving.

McCann wants to stand but Cantor is controlling the position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McCann is pulling down on Cantor's head to control his posture.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

and Cantor counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Cantor is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, McCann has managed to free his arm - good work.

Cantor is pressing down on McCann's thigh, looking to free his foot. McCann is holding on for now.
Cantor wants to control but McCann is keeping him busy.
Cantor wants to pass to mount but McCann is defending the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that's the end of the fight!
Roger Cantor showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Cantor has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
