PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Conor McGregor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nico Jermaine (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McGregor's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Music Foggy Dew – Hypnotize. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Nico Jermaine was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Conor McGregor!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Nico Jermaine!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Richard Clark and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A clash of legs there as Jermaine blocks the low kick.
Jermaine tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but McGregor defends well and Jermaine ends up having to push McGregor into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
McGregor digs a good hook to Jermaine's body.
McGregor bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
McGregor fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Jermaine looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
McGregor is looking to clinch.
Jermaine now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
Jermaine fails to land the takedown.
Jermaine throws out a loose jab but McGregor uses good head movement to avoid it.
McGregor connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Jermaine's hands.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jermaine tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but McGregor defends well and Jermaine ends up having to push McGregor into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Conor McGregor has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nico Jermaine.
Jermaine has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from McGregor.
Jermaine drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Jermaine darts in looking for a takedown but McGregor gets double underhooks and turns Jermaine into the cage.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

McGregor lands a nice shot that snaps Jermaine's head back.
Jermaine is trying hard to land a takedown here. McGregor sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

McGregor fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.

McGregor tries to sprawl but Jermaine drives through with a takedown into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Jermaine tries to pass the half guard into mount. McGregor knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
McGregor tries to roll over but Jermaine keeps him under control.

McGregor is looking to control Jermaine's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can McGregor avoid being mounted?

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
McGregor swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Jermaine wants to clinch.

Jermaine misses with a body shot
and McGregor counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
McGregor lands with a thumping leg kick.
McGregor cracks Jermaine with a right hand to the side of the head.
McGregor sizes up Jermaine with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
McGregor misses with a two punch combination.

Jermaine shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. McGregor is trying to defend but Jermaine finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Jermaine stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows McGregor to get to his feet.

and Jermaine counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for McGregor!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Jermaine thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

McGregor lunges at Jermaine with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Jermaine's hand.
Nico Jermaine is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

A decent looking cross lands there for McGregor.
Jermaine stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from McGregor.

McGregor wants to break the clinch but can't.
McGregor is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Jermaine turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Nico Jermaine has got the better of the ground game so far.

Jermaine looking to finish the fight with a rear naked choke. McGregor is controlling Jermaine 's left arm and he spins nicely into guard.
Jermaine is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Jermaine is looking to take a break and control but McGregor is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

McGregor tries to roll over but Jermaine keeps him under control.
McGregor has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Jermaine is working away from the top position though.
Jermaine tries to pass to full mount but McGregor defends it.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
McGregor tries to roll over but Jermaine keeps him under control.

McGregor knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Jermaine on the ground.
Jermaine passes the guard and advances to mount!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
McGregor manages to work a leg through to get back to half guard here. Good work there by McGregor, under a barage of strikes from Jermaine.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Conor McGregor will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


McGregor's corner calls for a 1-2. McGregor obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
McGregor lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
It looks like McGregor has been trying to sharpen up his punching technique, as it looks crisper than last time we saw him.
McGregor throws a good cross that connects.
McGregor fails with an attempt to clinch.
Jermaine chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before McGregor can pounce on him.
Conor McGregor seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
McGregor fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
McGregor feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Jermaines jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
A nice combination there by McGregor.
Jermaine has a pretty nasty looking mouse under his right eye.
McGregor cracks Jermaine with a right hand to the side of the head.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
McGregor shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Jermaine throws a counter combo.
Jermaine shoots in looking for a takedown but McGregor manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Jermaine's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
McGregor works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Jermaine takes one on the chin but seems OK.

McGregor moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
A decent looking cross lands there for McGregor.

Jermaine looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
McGregor is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Jermaine can do to turn this around?

McGregor ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

Jermaine closes the distance and clinches.
Jermaine is trying to break the clinch but McGregor is controlling him.

McGregor tries to throw a body punch but Jermaine avoids it by throwing McGregor back against the cage.

Jermaine is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Conor McGregor has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nico Jermaine.
McGregor can't find room to land a body shot as Jermaine controls the action.

Jermaine is trying to pull guard but McGregor turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

The referee is keeping an eye on Jermaine - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Conor McGregor showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for McGregor, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Conor McGregor decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
