PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rufus Montoya (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon StPierre (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rufus Montoya is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rufus Montoya!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jon StPierre!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Cecil Peabody and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
StPierre shoots in for a double leg but Montoya sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
StPierre throws a series of strikes that have Montoya backpedaling.
StPierre dives in and grabs Montoya's left leg, looking for a takedown. Montoya pushes down on StPierre's head and hops out.
Montoya appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
StPierre fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Montoya on the side of the head.


It looks like Rufus Montoya has been cut.
Montoya tries to clinch there but StPierre circles away.
Nice takedown defense from Montoya. No joy for StPierre on that attempt.

StPierre throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

and Montoya holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
StPierre tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Montoya looking to throw knees to the head but StPierre is blocking nicely.
Montoya blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Montoya looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
StPierre tries for a takedown but Montoya manages to get underhooks.
Montoya prevents StPierre from breaking the clinch.
Montoya could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

StPierre gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.

StPierre breaks from the clinch.
StPierre shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Montoya as he jumps to the side.

Montoya tries to work over StPierre's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

StPierre fails with a takedown attempt.

StPierre has a takedown stuffed.
Montoya half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
StPierre shoots in looking for a takedown. Montoya tries to sprawl out of it but StPierre keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Montoya manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Montoya tries to counter by clinching up but StPierre breaks away and moves out of range.

Montoya has closed the distance and engaged StPierre in a clinch.
StPierre goes for a takedown in the clinch but Montoya prevents it.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

StPierre breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
StPierre fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Montoya manages to avoid it.
StPierre shoots for a double leg takedown but Montoya sprawls well. He's pushed StPierre's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Montoya attempts a counter takedown but StPierre avoids it well and moves away.

StPierre rushes Montoya and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Montoya tries to circle away but StPierre has him pinned against the cage.

Come on Montoya - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.

StPierre changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Montoya tries to avoid it but StPierre manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Montoya to the ground. Montoya escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

StPierre is looking to control Montoya's arms but Montoya gets an underhook and turns him. Now StPierre has his back to the cage.

StPierre has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Montoya uses from the top position.
Montoya postures up in StPierre's guard and throws a big left but StPierre blocks it.

Montoya might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

StPierre working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Montoya doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Montoya manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
StPierre takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
StPierre wants to sweep here but Montoya controlling him for the moment.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Montoya's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

StPierre lets loose with a powerful body kick. Montoya will feel that in the morning.

StPierre has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Montoya is on him like a limpet, forcing StPierre back against the cage.

StPierre's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
StPierre will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

StPierre fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Montoya drops down looking for a counter takedown but StPierre sprawls and moves away.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Rufus Montoya.
I think Montoya has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
