Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jon Askren (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Adam (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the ring.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mark Adam!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Vladimir Khabensky and Konstantin Menshow.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Adam tries to clinch but Askren moves away

and Askren counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Askren.
Adam is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Askren throws a big elbow that misses.

Adam looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Askren trying to control the position from guard on top but Adam is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Askren throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Adam works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Askren accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Adam looking to hit a scissor sweep but Askren is one step ahead there.

Askren might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Adam is trying to keep Askren in close.
Adam is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Askren pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Adam is keeping the position for now.
Askren looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Adam throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Adam takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Adam is trying hard to land a takedown here. Askren sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Askren misses with a body kick.
Adam fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Askren avoids it really well and circles away.
Askren half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.

Askren shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Adam is trying to defend but Askren finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Askren has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Askren thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Adam's head.

Adam moves to clinch but Askren breaks away
and Askren connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Adam dives in for a single leg takedown but Askren sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the ropes.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Askren slaps away a takedown attempt from Adam, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Askren stalks Adam and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Adam's face. Adam staggers backwards, shaken.

Adam tries to buck Askren off but Askren is having none of it.

Askren takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Adam has hold of Askren's hands but Askren slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Askren trying to pass the guard but Adam defending well.
Askren slips a nice elbow through Adam's hands, connecting with Adam's forehead.
Askren content to control rather than advance.
Adam on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

A less than humble Jon Askren misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
Mark Adam was interviewed post fight and said 'I would like to congratulate my opponent to win this match. I want to thank the fans and I will be training hard and will come out stronger and better in the future ...'.
