Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ray Whitaker !
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, George Francis and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bethol tries to clinch up but Whitaker circles away and keeps his distance.
Whitaker clobbers Bethol with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Bethol shoots in but no luck this time.
Whitaker lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Whitaker darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Bethol looks to land a combination but Whitaker avoids it well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bethol ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Whitaker moves away.
Whitaker avoids the body shot from Bethol .
Bethol throws a leg kick that is checked
and Whitaker counters with a left to the body.

Bethol lunges at Whitaker with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Whitaker 's hand.

Whitaker cracks Bethol with a right hand to the side of the head.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Bethol throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Whitaker counters with a nice uppercut.
Whitaker is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Bethol had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.
Whitaker uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Bethol .
Bethol fails with the takedown.
Whitaker looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Whitaker scores with a body shot.

Bethol has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Whitaker finds it's way round the side to connect with Bethol 's head.
Bethol has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Bethol there as he acknowledges the shot.
Whitaker connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Bethol 's hands.
Bethol takes a jab right on the kisser.
Barry Bethol seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Bethol manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Whitaker on his heels. He'll look to pass Whitaker 's guard now, I'm sure.

Bethol is working Whitaker over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Whitaker is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Bethol has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Whitaker is working away from the top position though.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Bethol shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Whitaker defends it nicely.
It seemed like Whitaker was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Bethol shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Whitaker sprawls well. Whitaker wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Bethol gets slowly back to his feet.

Whitaker 's coach down at The Shark Tank was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Whitaker 's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Whitaker lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Whitaker connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Barry Bethol is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Whitaker lands a left and a right that send Bethol crashing to the mat, dazed. Whitaker thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

enabling Whitaker to counter with a crisp jab.
Oh Bethol is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Ray Whitaker is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Whitaker connects with a good right hand that stumbles Bethol . Bethol circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Whitaker might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Whitaker walks forward and throws a big overhand right! Bethol drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes! Whitaker swarms on him with more punches until the referee wrestles him away from Bethol 's unconscious body! Wow, that was brutal!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:53 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ray Whitaker !
