PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jay Mayorga (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cain Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones has chosen Hell's Bells- AC/DC as his entrance music. The key to victory for Jay Mayorga has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jay Mayorga!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cain Jones!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones throws an overhand right that lands on Mayorga's shoulder, as Mayorga tries to avoid the shot.
Mayorga looks to land a combination but Jones avoids it well.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Jones has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Jones misses with the combination.
Jones moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Jones changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mayorga tries to avoid it but Jones manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mayorga to the ground. Mayorga escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Jones shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Mayorga as he jumps to the side.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jay Mayorga has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cain Jones.

Mayorga is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Fighting Fitness & Freedom that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.

Jones in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Mayorga will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Jones wants to control from the top but Mayorga keeps moving.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Sloppy strikes from Jones. Those never looked like landing.
Mayorga slaps away a takedown attempt from Jones, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Mayorga was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Jones throws a series of punches but Mayorga moves out of range.
Jones avoids the body shot from Mayorga.

and Mayorga counters with a nice uppercut.

letting Mayorga counter with a right hand.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Mayorga uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Jones.
A quick step to the side and Mayorga tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
No joy there for Jones, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Mayorga throws a big counter combination but Jones scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
A right-left combo lands from Mayorga.


It looks like Cain Jones has been cut.
Jones doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Mayorga connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Jones gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Mayorga counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Jones thinking.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jones gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Some wild striking there from Mayorga.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
A hook to the body from Mayorga.
Mayorga has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Mayorga wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Mayorga pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Mayorga defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Jones.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jay Mayorga dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Cain Jones's cut.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

And Jones tries to counter it with a takedown but Mayorga pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Mayorga displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Jones.

Jones changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mayorga tries to avoid it but Jones manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mayorga to the ground. Mayorga escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Mayorga was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Jones has hold of Mayorga's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Mayorga seems comfortable defending it but Jones has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Mayorga is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Mayorga is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Jones couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Cain Jones!
A very excited looking Cain Jones made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
