PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Simeon Malaya (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jorge Junior (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 39 - 14 - 0, fighting out of London, Simeon Malaya!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 34 - 12 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jorge Junior!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Chris Edwards and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Junior throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Malaya connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Junior throws a leg kick but Malaya moved away.
Malaya has been working on his boxing with his coaches at KAMOT-E 4.5* sparring gym in the buildup to the fight.
A chopping leg kick lands by Malaya.
Malaya moves forwards but Junior connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Junior checks a leg kick nicely.
Malaya takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

Malaya throws a front kick aimed at Junior's knee but Junior avoids it well.
A nice leg kick lands there from Malaya.

Junior will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Malaya tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Junior was well out of range. Poor timing from Malaya.

It looks like Jorge Junior has been cut.
Simeon Malaya seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Junior throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Malaya on the side of the head.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Junior.

Malaya is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.

Junior tries to score with a low kick but Malaya moves his leg out of the way.
Malaya throws a front kick aimed at Junior's knee but Junior avoids it well.

Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Malaya, as that shot connected.

Malaya throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Malaya misses with a low kick.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Junior seems to have recovered his senses.
Malaya tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Junior is able to avoid easily.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Junior connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Malaya momentarily.

Junior seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Malaya does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Junior wants to take a breather but Malaya is having none of it.

Junior misses with a takedown attempt - Malaya sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Malaya lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Junior circles away quickly and effectively.
Junior takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Simeon Malaya.
I think Malaya has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
