PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Genki Dama (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Douglas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Douglas comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Rock You by Helix kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 34 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Genki Dama!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jack Douglas!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, William Peck and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dama looks to clinch
and Douglas counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Dama lands a nice looking body shot.
Douglas shoots in for a double leg but Dama sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Dama scores with a nice right hand.
Douglas missing with a left hand there. Dama was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Douglas misses the jab.
Genki Dama seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Dama throws a sloppy head kick and Douglas moves out of range easily.
Douglas tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A punch lands to the side of Douglas 's head but he takes it in his stride.

Douglas gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Dama to score an easy takedown into full guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Dama is looking to work some ground and pound but Douglas has wrist control.
Dama might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Douglas wants to sweep here but Dama controlling him for the moment.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Dama scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

Dama is looking for a kimura but Douglas is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Dama to get the leverage.
Dama is trying to control. Douglas wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Dama looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Douglas with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Douglas makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Douglas.

Dama avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Dama stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Douglas swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Dama is in close to Douglas's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Douglas looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Douglas avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Dama throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Douglas works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Douglas looking for a guillotine here but Dama defends easily.
Douglas wants to improve his position but instead Dama has moved into half guard.

Dama is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Douglas has managed to free his arm - good work.
Douglas slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

The crowd cheers as Dama lands an impressive looking overhand right. Douglas doesn't seem phased though.

and Dama cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Douglas ducks under a wild hook from Dama.
Jab, jab by Dama - just one landing.
Dama takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Dama throws a quick inside leg kick.
Dama definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dama throws out a powerful jab.
Dama digs a good body shot into Douglas's ribs.
Dama misses with a hook.

A looping hook to the body misses from Dama. Douglas does a little dance to reset his feet.
A clash of legs there as Douglas blocks the low kick.
Douglas tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Dama manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Douglas throws a push kick but Dama slaps the foot to one side.
Douglas throws a quick inside leg kick.
Dama lands with a straight right. Douglas didn't see that one coming.
Dama misses with a right hand
and Douglas counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Douglas wants to clinch up but Dama keeps it at a distance.
Dama slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

Dama looks to land a right hand but Douglas moved out of range.

Dama lands with an uppercut that bounces Douglas off the cage and back into range.
Dama changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Douglas is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Dama.
This has been an exciting period of action!

and Dama counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Douglas avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Dama got a little sloppy there for a moment and Douglas has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Dama has managed to get both his arms back between Douglas's legs - danger averted.

Douglas throws his legs up looking for a submission but Dama uses it to pass to side control.

Douglas regains half guard.
Dama seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Douglas does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Dama takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Dama connects with a nice short shot to Douglas's temple.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Dama is working for a kimura but Douglas is defending it quite comfortably.
Dama is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Douglas regains full guard. Nicely done.
Dama trying to control but Douglas is working from the bottom.
Dama stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Douglas swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Douglas is looking for a triangle but Dama pushes his legs off easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Douglas goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Dama half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Dama fails to land with a series of punches.
Douglas appeared to try and counter that last move with a leg kick.
Dama pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Douglas thinks about the counter body kick.
Douglas defending well as Dama loads up on a big left hand.
Douglas unleashes a big counter combination but Dama bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Dama lands with a shot to the body.
Dama scores with a jab to the body.
Dama drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

Dama slips under a jab.
It looked like Dama wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Dama uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Douglas.
Douglas misses with a low kick as Dama jumps back.
Dama cracks Douglas with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Genki Dama is winning the standup battle so far.
Dama connects with the punch.
Douglas fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Douglas lands a slapping body shot.
Dama ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Douglas moves away.
Douglas throws a leg kick but Dama moved away.
The fighters circling - Dama throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Dama swings away with a leg kick that misses.

Dama gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Douglas lands with a short shot to the head.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Dama tightens his grip and picks Douglas up, before dumping him to the ground. Douglas manages to land in guard.

Douglas is looking for a triangle but Dama pushes his legs off easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dama won't allow Douglas to sweep him here.

Douglas looking for subs off his back but Dama has passed one foot through into half guard.
Dama is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Douglas tries to get to full guard but Dama has control of the leg.
Dama is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Douglas can do to turn this around?

Dama is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Douglas is just riding it out for now. Dama eventually gives up the hold.
