The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Manta shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.

We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Spezza has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Spezza's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.

A slapping body kick lands there for Manta.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Manta takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Manta lands a glancing blow to the side of Spezza's head.
Manta tries to score with a low kick but Spezza moves his leg out of the way.

Manta is rocked!
Spezza takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Spezza is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Manta had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.
A left lands for Spezza.
Oh Manta is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Spezza cracks Manta with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends Manta tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Spezza pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! Manta is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!
