PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Nathan Nickles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jean Paul Leblanc (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Jean Paul Leblanc was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Nathan Nickles!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jean Paul Leblanc!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Dillan Fox and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nickles tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Nickles drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Nickles with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Nickles pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Leblanc is keeping the position for now.
Leblanc is trying to control the position but Nickles postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nickles throwing strikes but missing.
Nickles stands up over Leblanc, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Nickles tries to free his leg and advance position but Leblanc is retaining full guard.

Nickles is working Leblanc over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Nickles postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Leblanc can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Nickles controls the pace.

Nickles is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Leblanc has managed to free his arm - good work.
Nickles wants to pass to mount but Leblanc is defending the position.

Nickles is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Nickles looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Nickles is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Leblanc is working to get back to half guard.
Nickles tries to stand up but he's trapped just for the moment.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nathan Nickles dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Leblanc shoots and misses
and Nickles counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Nickles throws a head kick that misses.
Leblanc tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Leblanc tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Nickles defends well and Leblanc ends up having to push Nickles into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Leblanc shoots in looking for a takedown but Nickles manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Leblanc's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Nathan Nickles has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jean Paul Leblanc.
Nickles throws a head kick but Leblanc moves out of range.
Leblanc will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Nickles half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.

Nickles is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Leblanc can do to turn this around?

Leblanc gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Nickles is in close to Leblanc's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Nickles tries to free his leg and advance position but Leblanc is retaining full guard.
Leblanc is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Leblanc can't keep his opponent in guard - Nickles advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Nickles controlling the action here.

Nickles is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Nathan Nickles overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Nickles is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Leblanc defends it well.
Nickles looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Nickles is looking to advance position but Leblanc won't allow it.

Nickles is working for a kimura but Leblanc is defending it quite comfortably.

Nickles is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Leblanc doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Nickles.
Leblanc is not content to let Nickles control the position.
Nickles trying to mount his opponent but Leblanc defends it.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Nickles has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Leblanc defend it? Nickles steps over the head and cranks it - Leblanc is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Nickles!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:07 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Nathan Nickles!
