PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Cael Sanderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lleyton Max (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sanderson comes to the cage accompanied by Not Affraid- Eminem. Lleyton Max will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Lleyton Max!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sanderson shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sanderson stops Max from standing up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Max bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Sanderson's guard.

Max tries to free his leg and advance position but Sanderson is retaining full guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Max jabs Sanderson to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Max rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Sanderson moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Sanderson changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Max throws a right hand that Sanderson ducks under and follows up with a left that Sanderson also avoids with ease.

Max moves in looking to clinch but Sanderson pushes him off.
Sanderson walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Max scores with a hook to the body. Sanderson takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

so Sanderson counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Sanderson looking to sit in guard and control but Max gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Sanderson not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Max throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Sanderson works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Sanderson has a closed guard, preventing Max from standing up.
Sanderson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Max loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Max postures up in Sanderson's guard and throws a big left but Sanderson blocks it.
Max wants to get up but he can't break Sanderson's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Sanderson is working an open guard so Max takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Max digs a good body shot into Sanderson's ribs.
Max's coach down at Main Event Gym was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Max's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Sanderson avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lleyton Max dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Max throws a right hand that Sanderson ducks under and follows up with a left that Sanderson also avoids with ease.
Max digs a good hook to Sanderson's body.
Max paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Sanderson keeps the fight on the outside.
Max swings for the body but Sanderson moves out of range.

Lleyton Max seems to be getting the better of the standup.

and Sanderson decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Max's guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Max lands an overhand right.
Max throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Sanderson.
Sanderson changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Max misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Sanderson attempts a counter takedown but Max avoids it well and moves away.
Max smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Max lands with a shot to the body.

Max throws out a powerful jab.


Sanderson is rocked!
Sanderson tries to get into range but Max steps to the side and lands a beautiful hook that drops Sanderson! He's faceplanted into the mat, ass in the air... he's out cold! That's an image he won't want to show his grandkids when he gets older! Max scores the big KO victory!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:13 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Lleyton Max!
