PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Scottie Pippen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hunter Akbar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Akbar comes into a darkened arena with his song building. New Slaves kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Scottie Pippen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Hunter Akbar!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Franklyn Lucas and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pippen swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Akbar is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Pippen misses with a low kick.
Akbar throws a counter combo.
Pippen circles away from the clinch attempt.
Akbar misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Pippen jabs Akbar to the body, keeping him at a distance.

Akbar closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Akbar is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Akbar missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Pippen is trying to stand up here but Akbar is controlling him well.
Pippen might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Akbar seems to be working for a kimura but Pippen defends the submission attempt.
Akbar throws a strike but Pippen avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Akbar chips away with some ground and pound.
Pippen keeping full guard, as Akbar tries to pass.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Pippen keeping moving, preventing Akbar from controlling successfully.
Akbar in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Akbar's coach down at V Elite Gym was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Akbar's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Pippen looks to land a right hand but Akbar moved out of range.
Akbar lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Akbar shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Pippen sprawls well. Pippen wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Akbar gets slowly back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
A punch lands to the side of Akbar 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Akbar darts in looking for a takedown but Pippen gets double underhooks and turns Akbar into the cage.
Scottie Pippen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hunter Akbar.
Akbar displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Pippen throws out the jab.
We've been told by Pippen's head coaches at Farrell Pikey Camp that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

Akbar is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Pippen has managed to free his arm - good work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Akbar takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Pippen is trying to escape back to his feet but Akbar uses the scramble to pass into side control.

Akbar tries for a kimura but Pippen is defending well.
Pippen knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Akbar on the ground.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Akbar looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hunter Akbar dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Pippen throws a poor cross that misses

and Akbar counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Akbar passes Pippen's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Akbar not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Akbar maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Pippen could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Akbar has cracked it and Pippen is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Akbar!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:45 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Hunter Akbar!
Our winner, Hunter Akbar, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
