Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Alton Newcastle!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mewes lands the left hand.
Mewes throws a big shot that misses.
Nice cross by Mewes.
Mewes takes a swing at Newcastle's ribcage but misses.
Mewes displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.

It looks like Alton Newcastle has been cut.

Mewes gets tackled into the cage by Newcastle. Newcastle maintains the clinch.
Newcastle fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Mewes stops a takedown attempt from Newcastle.
Newcastle has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Mewes after a bit of a struggle.
Mewes misses with a shot to the kidneys.

Mewes is fighting off a takedown attempt but Newcastle is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Mewes to the mat. Mewes regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Newcastle trying to control the position from guard on top but Mewes is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Newcastle throws a strike but Mewes rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Newcastle wants to control but Mewes passes easily into half guard.

Mewes wants to work for an arm triangle but Newcastle is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Newcastle is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mewes is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Mewes will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Newcastle moves into full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mewes won't allow Newcastle to sweep him here.

Mewes drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Newcastle manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Mewes has Newcastle in his guard.

Newcastle postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Newcastle sitting in guard doing not very much at all here. Mewes doesn't need a second invitation though! He's locked up a guillotine and he's squeezing tight! That is tiiiiiiiiight! Newcastle paying the price for stalling here - he's pushing hard on the arm trying to free himself but it's no use! He's tapped! WOW, quick submission from Mewes - great work!
