PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Marco Macotti (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Viktor Gragula (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Macotti comes to the cage accompanied by Drown - Theory of a Deadman. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Marco Macotti!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Viktor Gragula!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Gwen Towbar and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Macotti gets caught flat footed, as Gragula shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Gragula postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Macotti is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Gragula, into his guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Macotti drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Macotti jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Gragula has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Macotti can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Macotti got a little sloppy there for a moment and Gragula has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Macotti has managed to get both his arms back between Gragula's legs - danger averted.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Macotti accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Gragula looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Gragula is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.


Gragula is looking for a kimura but Macotti is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Gragula to get the leverage.

Macotti manages to get to full guard.
Macotti lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Macotti wants to control from the top but Gragula keeps moving.

Macotti is looking to pass into half guard but Gragula pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Gragula is in guard.

Gragula tries to free his leg and advance position but Macotti is retaining full guard.
Gragula makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Gragula is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Macotti is trying to drag Gragula to the mat but Gragula just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

That was a close round but I would say that Marco Macotti will probably get the nod.

Marco Macotti is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Gragula has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Macotti avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Marco Macotti has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Viktor Gragula.
Macotti's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Macotti lands a hook that snaps the head of Gragula backwards.

Macotti turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Macotti manages to end up in side control.
Macotti is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Gragula can do to turn this around?
Macotti wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gragula keeps working.
Gragula is looking for a sweep.
Macotti remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Macotti, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A very excited looking Marco Macotti made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
The defeated Viktor Gragula had this to say: 'I hate werewolves'.
