PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Oscar Avila (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andrew Olson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Andrew Olson was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Oscar Avila!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Andrew Olson!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Jonathan Paton and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Olson misses with a combination
and Avila counters with a stiff right hand.
Avila throws a body punch but Olson moves out of range.
Olson lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Olson feints a jab promting Avila to slip. Olson then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Avila slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Olson fails to land with a series of punches.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Olson is defended easily by Avila.
Olson has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Olson swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Avila appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
Avila fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Olson manages to avoid it.
Oscar Avila is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

The crowd cheers as Avila lands an impressive looking overhand right. Olson doesn't seem phased though.
Olson moves in looking to clinch but Avila pushes him off.
Olson doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

No joy there for Avila, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

and Avila counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Olson shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Avila pinned against the cage. Avila gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Olson gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Olson shoots in looking for a takedown. Avila tries to sprawl out of it but Olson keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Avila manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Olson shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Avila sprawls well. Avila wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Olson gets slowly back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Avila will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
A little jabbing left from Olson on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Avila scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Oscar Avila is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Olson moves forwards but Avila connects with a nice, crisp jab.

Avila is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Olson can do to turn this around?

Avila displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Olson.
A quick step to the side and Avila tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.

Olson slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Olson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Avila swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Avila misses the shot to the body.
Avila connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Olson momentarily.

Avila bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Olson's head backwards.

We've been hearing good reports from Avila's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Avila wanted to stand there but Olson had control of the position.

That was a close second round but I would say that Oscar Avila will probably get the nod.

Olson is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Avila to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Avila shrugs it off.

I would just about give that final round to Andrew Olson.
I think Avila has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
