PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kylla Ei (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Daniel Speed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Daniel Speed told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Kylla Ei!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 37 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Daniel Speed!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Matti Vanhoillinen and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Speed misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Speed checks a leg kick.
Donk. Speed catches Ei right on the button with a cross.

Speed moves into the clinch successfully.
Ei blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Ei tries to land knees in the clinch but Speed avoids the damage to the body.

Speed tightens his grip and picks Ei up, before dumping him to the ground. Ei manages to land in guard.
Speed trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Ei wants to get back to his feet but Speed is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Speed working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Speed throws a strike but Ei rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

We've been hearing that Ei has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Ei slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Ei wants to get up but he can't break Speed's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Speed is working an open guard so Ei takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Ei throws a lazy right hand but Speed sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
And Speed tries to counter it with a takedown but Ei pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Ei swats away the attempt to clinch by Speed.
Ei is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Speed.
Ei throws a body shot but no joy.
Good shot there by Ei.

Speed closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Ei to the mat! Ei manages to get full guard.
Speed working some strikes from top position.
Ei is looking to stand up but Speed isn't so interested in that idea.
Speed is working Ei over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Speed stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ei swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Speed throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Ei works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Ei is looking to stand up but Speed isn't so interested in that idea.
Speed postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Ei is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Speed misses with a takedown attempt
and Ei counters with a nice uppercut.


It looks like Daniel Speed has been cut.
Speed is looking to land body kicks.
Ei throws a big shot that misses.
Speed darts in looking for a takedown but Ei gets double underhooks and turns Speed into the cage.
Ei appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
Ei lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Speed circles away quickly and effectively.
A punch lands to the side of Speed 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Speed connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Ei's hands.
Speed tries to score a power double leg takedown but Ei sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Speed somewhat.
Kylla Ei has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Daniel Speed.

Ei looks to land a combination but Speed avoids it well.
Speed fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Speed has a takedown stuffed.
Ei cracks Speed with a good jab.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Ei tries to work over Speed's front leg with a kick but Speed checks it.
Speed shoots in for a takedown but Ei shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

That was a close round but I would say that Kylla Ei will probably get the nod.

Speed displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Ei throws out the jab.
Speed throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Ei connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Speed misses with a combination
and Ei counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Speed wants to clinch up but Ei keeps it at a distance.
Speed dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Ei throws a big counter combination but Speed scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

Speed with the counter takedown but Ei avoids it easily.

Speed moves into range and clinches up with Ei.
Ei with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Speed lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Speed blocks an uppercut.
Speed lands a left hand that snaps the head of Ei backwards.

Speed lands a hook to the side of the head.
A nice left hand lands by Speed.
Ei trying to control the position but instead, Speed has worked for underhooks and has pushed Ei into the cage.

Ei misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Speed.

An uppercut to the body lands inside from Ei.
Speed wants to take the fight to the mat but Ei manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Speed stalling in the clinch but Ei improves position.
Ei landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Speed drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Speed tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Speed escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Kylla Ei is winning the standup battle so far.
Speed shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Ei connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Kylla Ei has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Daniel Speed.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Speed crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Ei - the referee stops the clock and Speed gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Ei. Speed manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Speed is breathing heavily.
Ei lands a two punch combo.

Ei dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Ei throws a low kick, looking for Speed's leg but Speed calmly moves out of range.
Kylla Ei is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
An inside leg kick from Ei misses.
Ei avoids a punch combination nicely.
Speed's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Ei connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Speed scrambles back to his feet.
Ei is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Speed takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
A left and a right from Ei both land. Nice combination.
A clash of legs there as Speed blocks the low kick.

Ei is looking to chop away at Speed's legs.
Ei scores with a one two! Speed had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.


That has opened up Daniel Speed's cut even more.
Ei takes a swing at Speed's ribcage but misses.
Ei throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Ei scores with a nice head shot.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Speed fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Ei, pushing him back against the cage.
Ei keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Speed's efforts to push away.
Ei digs a right hand into Speed's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Speed's gas tank.

Ei misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Speed.
No joy there for Ei, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Speed looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Ei fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Speed manages to avoid it.
Speed thinks about the counter body kick.

Ei rushes Speed and presses him up against the cage.

Ei is fighting off a takedown attempt but Speed is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Ei to the mat. Ei regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Ei wants to stand and escape but Speed is having none of it.
Speed loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Speed postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Speed stands up from Ei's guard - Speed perhaps looking for a knockout.

Ei throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Speed stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Speed uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Ei.

Speed lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
This has been an exciting period of action!

and Ei counters with a slapping leg kick.
Speed takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

Ei seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.

Daniel Speed's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.
Ei fakes the leg kick and cracks Speed in the body.
Speed takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Ei throws a front kick that sends Speed stumbling back into the cage.
Kylla Ei is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Speed takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Good leg kick by Ei there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Ei tries to clinch up but Speed circles away and keeps his distance.
