PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lynn Duran (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Sorrentino (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Lynn Duran!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mike Sorrentino!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Alec Ball and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Duran gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Sorrentino to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Sorrentino has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Duran is proving hard to escape from.
Duran controls Sorrentino momentarily but Sorrentino frees himself.
Duran wants to stand and escape but Sorrentino is having none of it.
Duran being controlled here, momentarily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Duran is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Duran looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Sorrentino pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Duran is keeping the position for now.
Sorrentino working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Duran might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Duran pushes Sorrentino off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Duran is defended easily by Sorrentino.

Sorrentino shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Sorrentino is looking to stall here but Duran recovers full guard.

Duran is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Sorrentino tries to free his leg and advance position but Duran is retaining full guard.

Sorrentino engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Duran keeping moving, preventing Sorrentino from controlling successfully.
Sorrentino wants to pass the guard but Duran is keeping the position.
Duran not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Duran is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Sorrentino is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Sorrentino is stalling in the full guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Sorrentino wants to pass the guard but Duran is keeping the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Sorrentino moves into range and clinches up with Duran.
Sorrentino tries to pull guard but Duran holds him up against the cage and eventually Sorrentino drops back down to his feet.
Duran misses with a body punch.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sorrentino slows down the pace here.
Duran struggles to land a body shot inside as Sorrentino controls his hands.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mike Sorrentino dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Duran manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

It looks like Sorrentino is going to stand back up.

Sorrentino is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Duran sees it coming and defends easily.
Duran is looking to escape.
Sorrentino content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sorrentino wants to stand but his hand is trapped. Duran uses the opportunity to regain full guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Duran is trying to keep Sorrentino in close.
Sorrentino trying to control the position from guard on top but Duran is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Duran with a poor takedown
and Sorrentino connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Sorrentino stuffs the takedown.

Sorrentino fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Duran sprawls well initially but Sorrentino persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Sorrentino is taking a breather. Duran says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Duran is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Sorrentino keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Sorrentino stalling away here and it's allowed Duran to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Sorrentino controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Sorrentino moves into the clinch.
Duran can't find room to land a body shot as Sorrentino controls the action.

Sorrentino jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Duran walks away with a smile on his face. Sorrentino gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Mike Sorrentino showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Duran tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Sorrentino swivels and escapes.

Sorrentino has managed to clinch.
Duran jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Sorrentino walks away with a smile on his face. Duran gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Sorrentino fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Duran looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit.

Duran rushes Sorrentino and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Duran misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Sorrentino is leaning against Duran and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.

Sorrentino manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Duran could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Duran tries to stand but Sorrentino is controlling from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Duran gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Duran gets tackled into the cage by Sorrentino. Sorrentino maintains the clinch.
Duran tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Sorrentino avoids it.
Duran misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Sorrentino.
Sorrentino wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Duran has him pressed against the cage.
Duran goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Sorrentino wants to get back to striking at distance but Duran won't allow it.
Sorrentino is trying to push Duran away but Duran has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Sorrentino on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Duran can't find room to land a body shot as Sorrentino controls the action.
Duran keeps control of Sorrentino as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Duran working aggressively here.
Sorrentino is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Duran is defending well for now.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Sorrentino can do anything to dispel that myth.
Sorrentino controls Duran momentarily but Duran frees himself.

Duran drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Duran jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Sorrentino really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Duran. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Duran misses with a takedown attempt

and Sorrentino holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lynn Duran. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Sorrentino decides to pull guard.
Duran would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Sorrentino wants to sweep here but Duran controlling him for the moment.

Duran is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Sorrentino is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Sorrentino has escaped and now he's on top!

Sorrentino seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Mike Sorrentino comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Sorrentino has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
