PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Neil Stevenson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brain Daniel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Neil Stevenson has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Neil Stevenson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Brain Daniel!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Jeff Smith and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stevenson misses with a takedown
and Daniel makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Stevenson throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Daniel's waist but Daniel gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Stevenson off to one side.

Stevenson closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Daniel trying to control the position but instead, Stevenson has worked for underhooks and has pushed Daniel into the cage.

Stevenson is fighting off a takedown attempt but Daniel is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Stevenson to the mat. Stevenson regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Daniel not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Daniel is pushing down on Stevenson's leg trying to pass to half guard. Stevenson is fighting to maintain full guard but Daniel has managed to sneak the leg through.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Stevenson wants to get back to full guard.
Stevenson looks like he's trying to stand up.
Stevenson is holding on to half guard well.

Stevenson is looking for a sweep. Daniel is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Daniel tries to pass to full mount but Stevenson defends it.

Daniel stops Stevenson from getting back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Stevenson is trying to maintain the position but Daniel is very close to passing his half guard.
Daniel prevents Stevenson from standing back up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Daniel misses with a body shot.

Daniel clinches.

Stevenson breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Stevenson gets tackled into the cage by Daniel. Daniel maintains the clinch.

Daniel escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Daniel closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Stevenson to the mat! Stevenson manages to get full guard.

Stevenson tries to strike from the bottom.
Stevenson wants to get back to his feet but Daniel is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Stevenson escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Daniel gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Stevenson is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Daniel defends well.
Daniel with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Stevenson tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Daniel prevents Stevenson from getting back to his feet.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Daniel should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Stevenson is breathing heavily.
Daniel tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Stevenson was well out of range. Poor timing from Daniel.

Daniel closes the distance and pushes Stevenson back into the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brain Daniel dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!



Daniel closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Stevenson did well to prevent Daniel getting side control.
Daniel looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Stevenson pushes Daniel off and gets back to his feet.
Stevenson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Stevenson fails with the takedown
and Stevenson takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Daniel connects with a solid leg kick.

Stevenson moves into the clinch.

Daniel escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Daniel shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Daniel lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.


Stevenson is rocked!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Daniel stalling.
Oh Stevenson is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Daniel is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Daniel is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Daniel stalling.
Daniel has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Daniel moves nicely into side control.
Stevenson is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Daniel lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Stevenson down.
Daniel just content to control the position.

Daniel has hold of Stevenson's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Stevenson seems comfortable defending it but Daniel has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Stevenson is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Stevenson is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Daniel couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:27 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Brain Daniel!
