PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tristan Gaines (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Josh Heath (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Heath has chosen Jump by VAN HALEN as his entrance music. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Tristan Gaines!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Josh Heath!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Anni Minnemäki and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gaines closes the distance but Heath moves to the side
and Heath counters with a stiff right hand.
Heath cracks Gaines with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Heath sizes up Gaines with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Gaines misses with a hook
and Heath counters with a stiff right hand.
Gaines takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Heath lands with a hook. Gaines tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Gaines doesn't manage to clinch there - Heath circles away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gaines rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Heath counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Gaines could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Heath scores with the left hand. Gaines knows he should have avoided that one.
Gaines tries to close the distance and clinch but Heath swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gaines swings widly with a right hand
and Heath counters with a series of strikes. Gaines will be more careful next time no doubt.
Heath lands a right hook to the body.
Heath scores with a jab to the head.
Gaines closes the distance looking to clinch
and Heath counters with a stiff right hand.
Gaines shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Heath but Heath pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Gaines tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Heath manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Gaines takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Heath cracks Gaines with a right hand to the side of the head.
Gaines tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Gaines takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Heath connects with a right hand. Gaines shakes it off.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Heath tests Gaines's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Gaines is looking to clinch.
Heath bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Gaines's head.
Heath cracks Gaines with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Gaines is looking to clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gaines attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Heath lands with an overhand left.

and Heath counters with a right hand to the body.
Gaines on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Gaines misses with a right hand
and Heath counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Horrible takedown attempt by Gaines or perhaps it was just good defense by Heath, which made it look bad.
Heath jabs at Gaines's body.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Gaines takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Heath keeps the fight on the outside.
Heath connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Heath scores with a body shot.
Heath stuns Gaines with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Gaines with a poor takedown
and Heath counters with a straight right hand.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tristan Gaines. That's going to take a lot out of him.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Good shot there by Heath.
Heath scores with a decent looking hook.
Gaines looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.
Gaines darts in trying to clinch
and Heath counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Gaines thinking.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Josh Heath dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Heath uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Gaines tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Heath counters with a lovely straight right hand!
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Heath. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Heath scores with a decent looking hook.
Heath stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Gaines drops his hands momentarily and Heath takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

Heath gets caught flat footed, as Gaines shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Heath wants to sweep here but Gaines controlling him for the moment.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Gaines accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Gaines makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Heath really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gaines. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Heath is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Gaines defends well.
Gaines works over Heath with some ground and pound from guard.
Gaines working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Heath's head.
Gaines has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Gaines drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Gaines seems to have locked his on tight now - Heath screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Gaines, as he picks up the win!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kneebar). Tristan Gaines!
Josh Heath was interviewed post fight and said 'The burning fire of the ginger burns inside me...'.
