The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Some bone on bone action there as Russel checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Mayhem fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Russel.
John Mayhem seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Russel shoots in but Mayhem avoids the takedown attempt easily.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Mayhem enables Russel to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Mayhem manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
