Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Boris Yeltsin!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Aafke Stam and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yeltsin misses with a looping left.

Cortez changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Yeltsin looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Cortez content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Cortez has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Cortez is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Yeltsin knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Yeltsin's coach down at Mo's ($499) was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Yeltsin's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

Cortez seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Yeltsin for as long as he can get away with.

Cortez drops back looking for a leg! Yeltsin is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Yeltsin manages to kick Cortez off! Cortez jumps back into Yeltsin's guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Cortez changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Yeltsin tries to avoid it but Cortez manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Yeltsin to the ground. Yeltsin escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. And we move into the final round!


Yeltsin lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Cortez avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Yeltsin's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Yeltsin duly obliges.
Yeltsin tries to clinch but Cortez moves out of range.
Cortez shoots in but Yeltsin avoids the takedown attempt easily.
It seemed like Yeltsin was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Cortez throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Yeltsin was covering up waiting for the punch and Cortez finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Cortez drops back, looking for a kneebar! Yeltsin looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Yeltsin looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Yeltsin!

Cortez tries to bench press Yeltsin off him but Yeltsin keeps the position.

Cortez gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Cortez moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Yeltsin wants to control from the top but Cortez keeps moving.
Yeltsin takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Cortez looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Yeltsin is defending well. Cortez quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Yeltsin has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Cortez celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
