PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Dean Fergers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cain Mcgregor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fergers kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Linkin' Park - Waiting for the End. On his way into the cage it seems that Dean Fergers has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Dean Fergers seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dean Fergers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Cain Mcgregor!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Micheangelo Fripello and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mcgregor closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Fergers quickly recovers to half guard.
Mcgregor content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Fergers gets full guard.
Mcgregor controls from within his opponent's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mcgregor wants to pass the guard but Fergers is keeping the position.

Mcgregor wants to control from the top but Fergers keeps moving.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Fergers has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Mcgregor is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Fergers closes the distance and clinches up with Mcgregor, looking for a takedown. Fergers pushes Mcgregor against the cage but Mcgregor circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Mcgregor rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Fergers moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Fergers shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Mcgregor is doing well to control the position and prevent Fergers from advancing to side control.

Fergers is controlling the pace.
Mcgregor is trying to maintain the position but Fergers is very close to passing his half guard.
Mcgregor moves into full guard.
Mcgregor keeping full guard, as Fergers tries to pass.
Fergers will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Fergers throws a strike but Mcgregor rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Fergers on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Fergers tries to get out of the position.
Mcgregor is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Fergers really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Mcgregor slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Fergers feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Mcgregor is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Mcgregor is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Mcgregor wants to improve his position but instead Fergers has moved into half guard.

Mcgregor has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Fergers is working away from the top position though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Fergers working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Mcgregor shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Fergers manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Mcgregor not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Mcgregor is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mcgregor decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Mcgregor is keen to just control but Fergers is a slippery customer.

Fergers is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Mcgregor pulls his head out easily.

Mcgregor is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Cain Mcgregor showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!



Mcgregor bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Mcgregor wants to lay and pray for a moment but Fergers keeps working.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Mcgregor tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Mcgregor takes his opponent's back. Perhaps a chance to lock up a rear naked choke here.
Fergers trying to control the hands but Mcgregor breaks the grip.
Fergers is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.

Dean Fergers has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Mcgregor has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Fergers won't enjoy being in this position. Mcgregor looking for the choke. Oh... he's slipped the arm under the neck - Fergers is tapping - it's over boys! Mcgregor picks up the submission victory!
