Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, James Alvarez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Marc Aslund!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Roger Salmon and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alvarez showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Aslund.
Aslund has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Alvarez is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Alvarez misses with a takedown attempt
and Aslund makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
A looping hook to the body misses from Alvarez. Aslund does a little dance to reset his feet.

Aslund throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Alvarez stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Marc Aslund seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Aslund loads up on a big right hand but Alvarez slips the punch.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Aslund is looking to stand up but Alvarez isn't so interested in that idea.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Aslund controls Alvarez momentarily but Alvarez frees himself.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Alvarez accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Alvarez throws an elbow that misses. Aslund uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Alvarez's guard. Nice move by Aslund!

Aslund content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Alvarez has locked up a guillotine! Alvarez's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Aslund is holding on here and Alvarez must be using up a lot of energy. Aslund has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Alvarez gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!
