PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ichabod Crane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anthony Dinozzo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Crane comes to the cage accompanied by Broken Bones - Decapitated. Dinozzo is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Dinozzo the Womanizer. Anthony Dinozzo told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ichabod Crane!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 24 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Anthony Dinozzo!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Crane clinches with his opponent.

Dinozzo jumps into guard, dragging Crane to the mat.
Dinozzo controls Crane momentarily but Crane frees himself.
Crane trying to control but Dinozzo is working from the bottom.
Crane is looking to work some ground and pound but Dinozzo has wrist control.
Crane content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Crane is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Crane has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Crane throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Dinozzo works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Crane will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Crane trying to control the position from guard on top but Dinozzo is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Dinozzo working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Crane.

Dinozzo working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Crane doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Crane manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Crane looking to sit in guard and control but Dinozzo gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.


Crane working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Dinozzo doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Dinozzo manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Crane wants to sweep here but Dinozzo controlling him for the moment.

Dinozzo throws a big right hand that misses.
Dinozzo trying to stand up but can't free himself from Crane's guard.
Crane not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Dinozzo's corner is telling him to maintain position.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Crane wants to sweep but no luck.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Dinozzo looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Crane looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Dinozzo trying to control from half guard but Crane is working away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Dinozzo is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Crane is just riding it out for now. Dinozzo eventually gives up the hold.
Crane is looking to control Dinozzo's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Crane avoid being mounted?
Dinozzo prevents Crane from improving his position.

Dinozzo is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Crane doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Dinozzo.
Crane tries to roll over but Dinozzo keeps him under control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Crane is defending against the submission attempts here by Dinozzo.
Crane is not content to let Dinozzo control the position.
Crane taking some punishment here, with Dinozzo in his half guard.

Dinozzo is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Crane is looking for a sweep. Dinozzo is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Anthony Dinozzo dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Crane doesn't manage to clinch there - Dinozzo circles away.
Dinozzo lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Crane looks to throw the jab but Dinozzo is out of range.
Ichabod Crane seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Dinozzo swats away the attempt to clinch by Crane.

Dinozzo gets the takedown into side control.
Crane can't do much from the bottom here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dinozzo tries to stand but Crane is controlling his head.

Dinozzo looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Dinozzo is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Crane is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Crane tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Dinozzo wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Crane manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Crane gets full guard.

Dinozzo avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Dinozzo has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Crane is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Dinozzo trying to control the position from guard on top but Crane is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Crane looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Crane is trying to keep Dinozzo in close.
Dinozzo wants to control from the top but Crane keeps moving.

Crane looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Crane utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Crane working a defensive guard here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Crane is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Dinozzo controls from within his opponent's guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Dinozzo displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Crane.

Dinozzo gets caught napping as Crane dives in and scores a takedown. Dinozzo manages to retain guard.

Dinozzo has his foot on Crane's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Crane works his way back into a safe position though.
Dinozzo is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Dinozzo will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Crane wants to control from the top but Dinozzo keeps moving.

Crane with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Crane is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

A close second round but Anthony Dinozzo will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Crane swinging wildly here.
Crane shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Dinozzo as he jumps to the side.
Dinozzo feints the counter takedown.
Crane comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Dinozzo shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Dinozzo showed some decent athleticism there.

Crane is defending against the submission attempts here by Dinozzo.

Crane working for a triangle but Dinozzo defends it easily.

Dinozzo drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Crane manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Dinozzo has Crane in his guard.

Crane lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Crane accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Crane is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Crane has his foot on Dinozzo's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Dinozzo works his way back into a safe position though.

Crane tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Crane with a couple of shots from the bottom there - nothing Dinozzo can't handle though.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Crane misses with a hook to the ribs.
Crane tries to pull guard but Dinozzo forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Dinozzo turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Dinozzo manages to end up in side control.
Dinozzo tries to score with some ground and pound. Crane controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Dinozzo is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Crane has escaped the position, nice work there.
Crane is trying to get back to half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Ichabod Crane has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Anthony Dinozzo is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Crane throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land.

And that's the end of the fight!
Anthony Dinozzo comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Dinozzo winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
