PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Michael Gilchrist (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Diego Fernadez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Michael Gilchrist had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Michael Gilchrist!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Diego Fernadez!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Vladimir Khabensky and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fernadez misses with a jab, cross combination.
A telegraphed right hand from Gilchrist misses the target.
Gilchrist shoots in looking for a takedown. Fernadez tries to sprawl out of it but Gilchrist keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Fernadez manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Good standup being displayed there by Fernadez as he connects with a hook.
Fernadez jabs Gilchrist to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Fernadez misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Gilchrist fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Fernadez sprawls well initially but Gilchrist persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Gilchrist wants to control but Fernadez is keeping him busy.

Fernadez is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Gilchrist is keen to just control but Fernadez is a slippery customer.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Fernadez gets caught napping as Gilchrist dives in and scores a takedown. Fernadez manages to retain guard.
Gilchrist would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Gilchrist drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Gilchrist jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Fernadez drops down looking for an ankle pick but Gilchrist pulls his leg out and moves away.
Gilchrist shoots in for a takedown but Fernadez shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Fernadez looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Gilchrist jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit.
Gilchrist tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Gilchrist gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Fernadez is trying to drag Gilchrist to the mat but Gilchrist just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Gilchrist tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Fernadez swivels and escapes.

Gilchrist shoots in and bounces Fernadez off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Gilchrist is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Gilchrist stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Fernadez swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Gilchrist seems to be looking for submissions.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Gilchrist is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Fernadez defends it well.
Gilchrist is trying to control. Fernadez wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Gilchrist is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Fernadez is just riding it out for now. Gilchrist eventually gives up the hold.

Diego Fernadez showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!
