PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jon Stevenson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Plaskota (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Mike Plaskota was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jon Stevenson!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mike Plaskota!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Yves DeLean and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Plaskota slips a jab from Stevenson.
Plaskota lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Stevenson looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Sloppy strikes from Stevenson. Those never looked like landing.
Plaskota is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Stevenson throws a right hand that Plaskota ducks under and follows up with a left that Plaskota also avoids with ease.
Stevenson throws a series of punches but Plaskota moves out of range.
Plaskota drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Stevenson defends it well.
Plaskota looks for a takedown but Stevenson sprawls well.
Stevenson pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Stevenson sets himself, and Plaskota steps forward looking for the clinch! Stevenson avoids it this time.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Plaskota.
Plaskota looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Stevenson tries to bum rush Plaskota with a series of wild strikes but Plaskota uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Plaskota tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

Stevenson will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Plaskota misses with a takedown attempt - Stevenson sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Stevenson throws a hook but Plaskota avoids it easily.
Plaskota changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Plaskota shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Stevenson sprawls well. Stevenson wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Plaskota gets slowly back to his feet.
Jon Stevenson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mike Plaskota.

Stevenson avoids the head kick by Plaskota.
Plaskota pivots, looking for a leg kick but Stevenson is out of range and Plaskota settles back down.
Stevenson tries to counter by clinching up but Plaskota breaks away and moves out of range.
Stevenson lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Plaskota avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Plaskota tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Stevenson works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
The fighters circle momentarily. Stevenson darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Plaskota closes the distance and clinches up with Stevenson, looking for a takedown. Plaskota pushes Stevenson against the cage but Stevenson circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Stevenson fails to land with a series of punches.
Plaskota slips a jab and a cross from Stevenson.
Plaskota throws out a loose jab but Stevenson uses good head movement to avoid it.
Stevenson misses with a body shot.
Plaskota changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Plaskota tries for a takedown but Stevenson sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Stevenson misses with a two punch combination.
Stevenson backing away here, and Plaskota unleashes a leg kick that just misses.
Stevenson blocks the body kick.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Plaskota throws a wild body kick that Stevenson sees coming a mile off.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Stevenson cracks Plaskota with a good jab.

Plaskota closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Stevenson goes for a takedown in the clinch but Plaskota prevents it.
Plaskota gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Stevenson.

Plaskota decides to pull guard.

Plaskota is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Stevenson is aware though and is defending well.

Plaskota seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Plaskota looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Stevenson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Plaskota on the ground.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Stevenson is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Plaskota is looking for a triangle but Stevenson pushes his legs off easily.

Stevenson got a little sloppy there for a moment and Plaskota has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Stevenson has managed to get both his arms back between Plaskota's legs - danger averted.

Plaskota works his way to full guard. Good work.
Stevenson is looking to pass into half guard but Plaskota pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Plaskota is in guard.


Plaskota has gone for a leg lock! Stevenson slips out almost immediately though and dives into Plaskota's guard.

Stevenson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Stevenson has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Plaskota to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Stevenson is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Plaskota pulls down on the head and he's put Stevenson to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:38 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Mike Plaskota!
