PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mohammed Huber (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dran Jast (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mohammed Huber!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Dran Jast!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Marco Blurström and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jast has closed the distance and engaged Huber in a clinch.

Jast pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Jast misses with a few strikes there.
Huber tries to close the distance and clinch but Jast swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
No joy there for Huber, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Huber closes the distance and pushes Jast back into the cage.

Jast breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Jast tries to land a front kick but Huber steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Jast feints and as Huber raises his hands in defense, Jast changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Huber looking to hit a scissor sweep but Jast is one step ahead there.
Huber could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Huber is on top in guard.

Huber throws a big right hand that misses.
Huber has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jast wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Huber lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Huber throws an elbow that misses. Jast uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Huber's guard. Nice move by Jast!

Jast trying to stand up but can't free himself from Huber's guard.
Huber looking for a sweep. Not yet Huber, not yet.
Huber scores with a nice shot.
Jast looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Jast wants to control from the top but Huber keeps moving.
Huber bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Jast's guard.

Jast looks winded!

Huber throwing strikes but missing.
Huber trying to stand up but can't free himself from Jast's guard.
Huber stopping the sweep attempt from Jast.
Huber is looking to work some ground and pound but Jast has wrist control.
Huber is in close to Jast's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Jast pulls Huber in to control the position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Huber wants to clinch.
Huber jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Huber has managed to clinch.
Huber drops down looking for an ankle pick but Jast pulls his leg out and moves away.

Jast darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Huber tries to roll over but Jast keeps him under control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Huber flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Jast prevents Huber from improving his position.
Jast tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Huber.
Jast not doing much here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Huber is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dran Jast dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Jast manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Huber on his heels. He'll look to pass Huber's guard now, I'm sure.
Huber has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Jast has passed into side control.
Jast lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Huber down.
Huber gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Jast has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Huber pushes Jast off looking to stand but Jast dives back in and keeps control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Huber is defending against the submission attempts here by Jast.
Jast is breathing heavily.
Huber gets back to full guard.

Huber bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Jast's guard.


Huber postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Jast is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Huber, into his guard.

Dran Jast has got the better of the ground game so far.
Huber wants to sweep here but Jast controlling him for the moment.
Jast would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Huber trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Jast trying to control the position from guard on top but Huber is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Huber wants to sweep here but Jast controlling him for the moment.
Huber throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Huber bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Jast's guard.


Jast has his foot on Huber's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Huber works his way back into a safe position though.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Jast. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Huber is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Jast holds on and takes a little breather.
Huber with a nice head shot there.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Jast can do anything to dispel that myth.
Huber sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Jast is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Huber is aware though and is defending well.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Dran Jast seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Huber fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Jast decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Huber works his way to full guard. Good work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jast won't allow Huber to sweep him here.
Huber trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Jast pushes down on Huber's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Huber might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Jast trying to control from Huber's half guard. Huber has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Dran Jast showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Huber lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!


It looks like Dran Jast has been cut.
Huber's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Huber duly obliges.
Huber avoids the head kick by Jast.
Mohammed Huber is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Jast tries to keep at a distance but Huber has taken the fight into the clinch.

Jast lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Huber flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Huber tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Jast is trying to control the action in half guard but Huber is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Huber is striking from the bottom but he's now found himself mounted! Oh dear - not enough focus on defense there.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Huber slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Jast is trying to control. Huber wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Jast missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Huber moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Huber looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Jast passes Huber's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Jast blocks the strikes from Huber.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Jast prevents Huber from improving his position.
Jast passes the guard and advances to mount!
Huber gets back to half guard.
Jast trying to mount his opponent but Huber defends it.
Huber tries to roll over but Jast keeps him under control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Huber makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Huber.
Huber keeping full guard, as Jast tries to pass.
Huber keeping moving, preventing Jast from controlling successfully.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Huber doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Huber clinches with his opponent.

Huber has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Jast regains guard immediately.
Huber trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Jast wants to sweep here but Huber controlling him for the moment.
Jast working a defensive guard here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Huber decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Jast, up you get!
Mohammed Huber has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Dran Jast is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Mohammed Huber showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Jast has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
