PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Pillow Hands (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Lancier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lancier is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Set To Fail. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Chris Lancier!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lancier will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Lancier dives in and scores a takedown into Hands's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lancier stops Hands from standing up.

Hands working for a triangle but Lancier defends it easily.
Hands keeping moving, preventing Lancier from controlling successfully.
Hands keeping full guard, as Lancier tries to pass.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hands seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lancier trying to control the position from guard on top but Hands is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lancier pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Hands is keeping the position for now.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Lancier pushing down on Hands's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Lancier is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Hands wants to control but Lancier is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Hands tries to close the distance and clinch but Lancier swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Lancier fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Hands is looking to counter punch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Lancier prevents a body shot from Hands.
Lancier tries to pull guard but Hands holds him up against the cage and eventually Lancier drops back down to his feet.
Pillow Hands has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chris Lancier.
A head punch on the inside from Hands fails to land.
Hands throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Lanciers head.
Hands is pushing Lancier up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Hands stalling.
Lancier jumps guard but Hands stands there with Lancier around his waist. Lancier gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
A hook to the body from Hands.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lancier tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Hands misses with a punch to the body.
Hands throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
A hook to the body from Hands.
A right hand to the body from Hands.
Hands works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
Hands tries a body shot but Lancier blocks it.
Hands tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

Lancier pulls guard effortlessly.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Hands working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Hands looking to sit in guard and control but Lancier gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Hands is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Lancier wants to control from the top but Hands keeps moving.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hands is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Lancier thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Lancier is stalling in the full guard.

Hands is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Lancier has his hands clasped together but Hands extends and breaks Lancier's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Hands.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Pillow Hands!
Pillow Hands retains his middleweight title!
