PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jason Vezina (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michal Elsner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jason Vezina!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Michal Elsner!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Sergei Dronov and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vezina bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.


It looks like Michal Elsner has been cut.
A solid body kick from Vezina.
Elsner shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

and Elsner counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Vezina wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Elsner is now in half guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Vezina tries to clinch up against the ropes, rushing in to close the distance. Elsner manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Elsner wants to work for an arm triangle but Vezina is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Vezina is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Elsner scores with a couple of nice shots.

Elsner is landing with some decent strikes but Vezina is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Vezina is looking to improve his position but Elsner isn't that keen on the idea.
Elsner throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Elsner throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Vezina because Elsner loaded up on that one.

Elsner has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Elsner uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Vezina.

Elsner changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Vezina fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Elsner has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Elsner there as he acknowledges the shot.


That has opened up Michal Elsner's cut even more.
Vezina throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Vezina is looking to clinch but Elsner is avoiding it.
And Elsner tries to counter it with a takedown but Vezina pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Vezina throws a head kick that Elsner semi-blocks.
Elsner avoids the head kick by Vezina.
Elsner is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Vezina will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Elsner up against the ropes.

Michal Elsner's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.
