PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Rab Ferd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rock Machine (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Machine is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Hell Yeah. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rab Ferd!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rock Machine!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Machine with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Machine lands a nice leg kick that just misses Ferd's sensitive parts.
Machine falls off balance throwing a combination

and Ferd counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Machine is trying to control but can't.

Ferd is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Ferd is looking for a kimura but Machine is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Ferd to get the leverage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ferd is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Machine sees it coming and defends easily.

Machine felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ferd has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Machine is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Ferd is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Machine sees it coming and defends easily.
Ferd seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Machine does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Ferd looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Machine might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Ferd haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Ferd postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Machine looks to score with a jab to the body but Ferd is just out of range.
Machine moves away from the strike by Ferd.
A cross from Ferd lands.
Ferd fails with the takedown
and Machine counters with a stiff right hand.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Ferd takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Machine jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Ferd changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Machine connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Ferd takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rab Ferd dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Machine accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Rab Ferd overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Ferd has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Machine can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Rab Ferd tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
