Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alfonzo Gates (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Julio Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Alfonzo Gates!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Julio Jones!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Colin Fray and Paul Gruel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones throws a shot to the body.
Jones dives in and scores a takedown into Gates's guard.
Jones postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Gates striking off his back but it's not causing Jones any problems.
Jones stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Gates chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Jones can pounce on him.
Jones moves into the clinch.
Jones pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Jones closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Gates did well to prevent Jones getting side control.
Gates avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Jones.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Jones wants to stand up but Gates is controlling the position.

Jones slows the pace down in half guard.
Jones trying to pass the guard but Gates defending well.
Still in half guard, Jones seems content to control.
Jones's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Gates is refusing to be controlled, as Jones sits in half guard.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Jones stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Jones wants it to stay on the feet.
Jones rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Gates moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Jones closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Gates to the mat! Gates manages to get full guard.
Gates is breathing heavily.
Jones trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Jones postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Jones tries to free his leg and advance position but Gates is retaining full guard.
Jones is stalling in the full guard.
Jones trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jones throwing strikes but missing.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Gates misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Gates gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Jones stands up from Gates's guard - Jones perhaps looking for a knockout.
That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Jones manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Gates on his heels. He'll look to pass Gates's guard now, I'm sure.

Jones slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Let's hope that Jones has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jones is continuing to stall.
Jones has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Gates looking for a sweep. Not yet Gates, not yet.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Jones is looking to work some ground and pound but Gates has wrist control.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
The fighters circle, before Jones throws a beautiful high kick that crashes into Gates's neck, sending him stumbling to the floor! Jones lands more strikes and forces a referee stoppage! That one ended in an instant!
