Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Reza Katebi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sergei Simenkov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Reza Katebi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 13 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sergei Simenkov!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Ian Loll and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Simenkov tries to score a power double leg takedown but Katebi sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Simenkov somewhat.
Katebi scores with a hook to the body. Simenkov takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

Simenkov shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Katebi napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Simenkov sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Katebi is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Simenkov in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Katebi's coaches at TIGER MMA have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position.
Katebi has one of Simenkov's arms on lockdown, trying to prevent him from doing any damage.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Katebi is on top in guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Katebi accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Simenkov is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Katebi has Simenkov pulled in close to control his posture.
Katebi wants to hit a switch here but Simenkov passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Katebi there!

Simenkov drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Simenkov jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Simenkov stands up over Katebi, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Katebi is trying to keep Simenkov in close.

Simenkov has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Simenkov got a little sloppy there for a moment and Katebi has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Simenkov has managed to get both his arms back between Katebi's legs - danger averted.
Simenkov throws an elbow that misses. Katebi uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Simenkov's guard. Nice move by Katebi!

Simenkov must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Sergei Simenkov showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Katebi feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Simenkovs jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
